Slightly sweet. Vanilla, caramel malt, some roast. A little nondescript twang, maybe extract? I don’t know. Creamy full mouth, best part about the beer. Sickly sweet vanilla. Caramel. A bit of acidity that may or may not be associated with the roast. A bit of a twang, as I said. Cream soda from the previous rater is about right. That same sort of acidity too, creamy. Strang beast. Lingering toast. nbutler11 (773), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 1, 2009 Bottle from Papago. Pours a mild coffee color with a trim tan head. Certainly doesn’t look like a porter. Smells of barley, malt, and raw vanilla beans. Tastes the same with an added note of baker’s cocoa. Very dry. Some cream or a bit of sweetness would go a long way in balancing this out. kpresley77 (134), Jackson, Georgia, USA

Taste starts vanilla then sweet toffee and vanilla finish. Wish the vanilla wasnt the dominant flavor. drowland (1434), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 25, 2009 This was one of the first beers I tried when I started getting into craft beer, and I was disappointed in the lack of vanilla. It’s there, but quite subtle. JaBier (1294), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Opaque medium brown color with a minimal head. Malty aroma with plenty of vanilla. I would have thought too much vanilla would be better than too little, but rethinking that now. Also, this is more of a brown ale than a porter. Kinda tastes like Vanilla Coke mixed with Newcastle. Grizzle (51), Lawrence, Kansas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Bottle -> Imperial pint glass. Great aroma: sweet and malty. Pours a deep, rich mahogany, with a 1/2 to 3/4 inch khaki head, which disappears perhaps quicker than a porter head should. Zero lacing to speak of. The vanilla is successfully infused with the chocolate, caramel, nut, and malt notes, producing a roasted sweetness. The body is a thin-medium, with an oily slickness as it rolls off the tongue and down the hatch. mcjay (304), Neenah, Wisconsin, USA

Moderately malty mouth feel with flavors of vanilla and coffee with hints of maple and brown sugar and a slightly bitter finish. Plamadude30k (122), Tucson, Arizona, USA
