Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jun 26, 2008 Bomber. Poured medium brown with a creamy cap of tan head. The aroma picked up sweeter chocolate with caramel and toffee notes.. definitely some vinegary sourness, which was not a good sign. The flavor confirmed my fears, throwing near lambic-like vinegary sourness all over the place.. some chocolate and oats deep down, but this was in really bad shape.. sour and somehow tacky finish. Medium-bodied and sour on the palate.. never felt good. This was a bummer. brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Apr 30, 2008 22oz bottle received in trade. Thanks! Labeled “Imperial Oatmeal Stout.” Dark brown-black pour with a huge head that diminishes rather quickly. Lightly sweet marshmallow aroma with chocolate but it is lacking for an imperial. The flavor is somewhat “small” for what I expected. Burnt and roasted malt with a light creaminess and a touch of an ashy finish. Very simple and on the bland side, but not “bad.” Body and mouth feel are thin. Overall I am disappointed. I am usually much more pleased with the brews from Brew Kettle. Oh well, you can’t win them all. tytoanderso (1381), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Jan 6, 2008 22oz bottle from Santa (crizay). Uh... labeled as an Imperial Oatmeal Stout. Huh... Aroma of artificial chocolate, fusel alcohol, nail polish remover, three day old Sanka coffee. Pours dark brown with a thin khaki head. Flavor was... how do I put this gently? Ungood? I’ve had worse? Very thin and watery on the tongue. It was sweet and kinda bitter with a touch of very lightly toasted malt. Needs quite a bit more malt and body to be considered a stout. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 26, 2007 Very light aroma with some mild toasted grain notes. The body is dark brown to black and holds a craggy, thumb thick, tan head. Very thin, watery fore. Toasted grains, light coffee/chocolate with a hint of cola and sweet malt on the finish and some faint ash/tobacco in the aftertaste. If they had called this "Not Just For Breakfast Toasted Oat Dunkel" I might actually be impressed, but this is lager thin and just not a very good stout, compared to what else I can find comercially. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Jul 28, 2005 My first disappointment from the Brew Kettle. Fluffy head over a very dark brown body. Thin roasty aroma. Bit of chocolate. Flavor is thin and sweet. The body is really thin as well. Not really bad but could be so much better. Drew (2406), Kent, Ohio, USA Sep 15, 2004 Poured a dark brown with a short tan head, not much lacing. Roasty chocolate sweetness, at some points I got hints of prune juice - a thinly vinous body - I was hoping for a creamier palate. Finish is sweet with a hoppy roasty edge. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Jun 13, 2004 bottle: Dark brown with coppery highlights and a thin tan head. Roast dominates chocolate just slightly in the aroma; hints of caramel and low fruitiness. Also some sugary sweetness in the aroma. Sweet malty side of balance with a coffee/roast flavor right behind it. There is also a toasted oatmeal and light burnt flavor in the finish. Lightly acidic/sour from dark grains. Burnt caramel aftertaste as well as roast and chocolate. Body is fairly thin for an oatmeal stout. Typically oatmeal is added for viscocity and smoothness, and this just doesn’t have it. Lighly dry and astringent with higher than normal carbonation for a stout. Not a bad beer, but not what I’d expected from an oatmeal stout.
