nigelmarx (4), New Zealand does not count May 12, 2005 My pick of the Brew Moon range, but then I would say that, wouldn’t I being a fan of heavy and dark beers. I love the balance of flavours and the slight intrusion of the warmth of the higher alcohol. Like all the Brew Moon range, the head goes quickly, but the taaste stays. Get better toward the end of the glass so I would say better less chilled. TheGrandMaster (1434), Auckland, New Zealand Mar 21, 2008 Bottle, poured black with a large bubbly tan head. Strong roasted malt aroma that gives of hints of licorice, sweet chocolate and ground coffee. Velvety on the palate, those smooth roasted malt flavours of chocolate and coffee, but becoming more sweet and tangy in the finish with some hop bitterness. It was late and I didn’t know whether I wanted another drink, I’m very happy I did. Bullit (504), Zeist, Netherlands Jan 19, 2008 Pitch black, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and coffe. Flavour has bitter chocolate and coffee and roasted malts. Very good! NoiZe (875), Zeist, Netherlands Jan 23, 2008 I’ve had this one in New Zealand on my honeymoon. Had it at the brewery.
Nice black color. Roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. A very nice and subtile bitterness. I want more. yalnikim (640), Wellington, New Zealand Apr 20, 2005 Tasted 30/03/2005. Shared a 640ml bottle at the Cellar Vate March tasting.
Pours a deep dark brown, virtually black, with a very creamy, lacy, tan head. Some woodiness and sea spray in the nose - a little more hop presence than I expected. Coffee in there too, as you might expect. Flavour is subdued sweet malts up front but balanced bitter chocolate and roasty malts. Very smooth. lovely chewy medium mouthfeel. My pick of the evening’s tasting and a nice little discovery in the Brew Moon Brewery.
