The color is a deep garnet when held up to a nearby light source. The aroma is surprisingly hoppy with a strong coffee note. It’s sweet with some rich malt aromas, as well. The flavor is a bit oversweet with roasted malt flavors, mainly sweet coffee. The hops are citric, minty and fairly strong. The beer is a bit sticky with malt sweetness, but it’s not nearly as bad as could be expected from a 10% abv "pilsner." I can understand how someone wouldn’t enjoy this beer - there are some strong, disparate flavors - but I find it appealing. It’s a bit pricey for a second take and I enjoyed the first Stone Collaboration beer a bit more, but I’m still glad I bought it. dkachur (2431), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is roasty with notes of chocolate, muted floral hops and strong berry notes. Taste is coffee, bitter hops, roasted malts, strawberry, apple and tropical fruits. I’m surprised by the fruitiness in this but it is very welcome. Light alcohol burn. The hop burn lingers as well. Medium bodied and very smooth. Well done. PilsnerPeter (2667), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 10, 2009 Bottle: Deep brown with ruby edges and a light tan head. The aroma is hoppy and earthy- some black malts, resiny spearmint notes and mild oak like earthiness and tobacco notes. Dry flavor- has some black malt and chewy thick pils malt. Very peppery and tannic and a very dry tobacco note and a long peppery lingering bitterness. Solid, but doesn’t really capture it’s labeled style- doesn’t seem like a lager at all. This is barrel aged? Hard to figure out, but interesting and tasty. fidel (1015), Livermore, California, USA

Dark browm w/ Ruby highlights.
Aroma is roasted malt and citrus hops and a little lactose.
flavor leans more towards a milk stout with an addition of c hops.
Finish is nicely bitter with a lactose back.
I’m a little confused on the ’Imperial Pilsner" designation. While it is good yes, and I enjoyed it very much, it really doesn’t have any of the characteristics I would associate w/ a pilsner, imperial or not. Not clear, (yes I know it says black pilsner), not crisp and clean on the finish, and the hops altho more subdued than a normal stone are still more west coast ipa in style. More like an IPA mixed wih a milk stout.
