bottle. pours a deep brown with a big light tan head which settles to a quarter inch throughout... wonderful piney hops dominate the aroma with some spice and citrus notes. This is a very complex and unique beer... I get lots of orange / tangerine notes mixed with piney "Stone" hops... there is a solid spice presence throughout the finish... medium body, an assertive character... somewhat biting... don’t really notice the 10% abv at all... very drinkable and unlike any Pilsner ever brewed... a wonderful blend of 3 unique brewers.

8/20/2009: Juxtaposition Black Pilsner... Aroma: Skads of hops, this definitely smells like a fresh and vibrant IPA with lots of sugary red grapefruit, tinge of lemon. Appearance: Very dark brown, nearly black. Flavor: Supery citrusy (almost a hint of amonia), slightly caramelized maltiness, PINE, a bit of alcohol; the hops dominate when cooler and the malt comes out more when it warms. Palate: Medium-bodied, chewy texture. Overall: It’s good and it might be wet and a beer, but it is in no way a Pils. This is a Black IPA (or even just and IPA that happens to be black) in every way. I bet this might even be better with 6 months to a year of age on it...

12 Fl. Oz. bottle (10.0% Alc/Vol) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #36 for this beer.

Old soft gentle wood on the nose. Dark brown, thin in the glass, light tan head. Chocolatey with a strong clean burst of resiny hops. Chewy finish. Good times.

Nice beer. Clear black pour, off-white head. Sweet malt, roasted coffee, burnt toast, fruit, floral hops, smoke, citrus, and a bit of licorice. Mmm one of the best lager out there.

Pours black with a large light brownish tan and cream colored head. Aroma is somewhat boozy and smokey. Mild citrus flavor acompanies a smokey and otherwise hard to describe flavor

a not entirely black beer, but dark, under a small beige head. dominantly floral hop aroma with caramel and hints of toast. not really a "black beer" aroma at all. flavors of tea, licorice, minty herbs, floral hop, vanilla and oaky wood. a very strange mix of flavors to say the least. a dark beer and hoppy beer mixed with some oak aging and categorized as a strong lager. an odd one. alcohol is well hidden. i notice the stone influence from the hoppiness, the brewdog from the barrel aging, but i have not tried any cambridge offering as of yet. weird.

12 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a clear deep brown color with a one and 3/4 finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is toasted malt, floral hops, and a hint of citrus. Flavor is even better. Hints of chocolate, toasted malt, and a nice touch of hops in the finish. Not what I was excepting, but hey, it’s from Stone. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth. Medium body. The 10% alcohol is nicely hidden, but it will sneak up on you. This is not your typical Lager. I’d say it was a cross between a Porter and an IPA with a smooth Lager finish. Very nice! I just wish it didn’t cost almost $7 for a 12 oz. bottle.

Thanks to rustychiles for picking up one of these for me before they ran out. Pours pretty much pitch-black with very minimal head. Straight pour only yields some white lacing around the edge of the glass. Aroma is citrusy hops, cocoa, some caramel sweetness, and alcohol. Taste is not anywhere near as bitter as I was expecting. In it’s place there is some coffee/cocoa bitterness, which is followed by citrusy hops that dominate the aftertaste as well. A very interesting beer with a very unique taste progression. Quite good.
