Bottle... Poured near black with a huge, beige head. Roasted nose, grainy and boozy as well. Hoppy brew, nice balance of grains and yeast. Sweet and cookie-like bread notes. Smoked essence in the finish.

Pours black with a creamy tan head. The aroma is potent and hoppy with pine, coffee, ethanol, caramel, and toffee. Some slight roast and citrus. Strange combination of aromas, but it works. The flavor is very well balanced with honey, caramel, toffee, chocolate, citrus fruits and a grapefruity finish. Some roasted coffee notes in the background. Very enjoyable. Normally I’m not a big fan of collaboration beers, but these Stone offerings have been superb.

Pours black, very little head. Aroma of anise and eucalyptus, backbone of some caramel. Little sweetness and then an astringent bitter finish. Certainly unique. Great mouthfeel and ABV hidden well.

Aroma is charcoal, wood and hops. Pours a black color with tan lacing. Refreshing, despite the color. Beautiful beer with notes of dark fruits, leathery malt and a clean finish.

Tasted 11/12/09. 12oz bottle. Dark with a syrupy brown hue. Khaki head. Aromas of raisins and graham crackers. Medium bodied with a nice dry finish. Totally English style. Smooth malts and dry mildly hoppy finish. This was really good.

Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Roasted coffee notes, caramel, light chocolate. Birch, licorice, extremely bitter licorice, and ginger root. Its so dam bitter i had a tough time racing thru a bottle. The 10% is virtually non existent vs the bitterness.

12oz bottle from Charles Street Liquors, Boston MA. Very dark brown, thin collar of foam. Strong hop presence on the nose - more pine than pilsner. Initial impression on the palate is sweetish and fruity, with developing chocolate and a powerful US hop character. Also a touch of roasty malt. Distinctly bitter with some warming, but not too burning, alcohol. A tasty, flavourful brew. Came over to me more like a dark IPA than a Pilsner though.

12. Pours a deeply murky ebony with the faintest glimmers of crimson in the corners. Towering, sudsy, loose tan head that leaves sheets of foamy lace all the way down. Very decadent and delicious-looking beer. Beautiful toasty, herby, slightly floral hop nose. Touches of mint and sage in there as well. Creamy medium body, goes a bit watery in places, but not at all in an unpleasant way. Chocolate, toast, and lemongrass on the mid-palate. Should those three tastes taste great together? No. No, they most definitely should not. But they’re working well together here, probably helped along by a few underlying subtleties I’m failing to articulate. Long roasty, chocolatey finish. I don’t know that this quite a 60-cent-an-ounce beer, but it’s pretty damn good, and I am pretty happy there’s another one on the counter. Well played, gentlemen.
