Sep 20, 2009 @Richmond Gathering 9-courtesy maniac/Thanks Joe-12oz bottle-pours a dissipating tan head and dark brown color. Aroma is licorice/anise/tar-dark malt, some spice hops. Taste is chocolate/licorice/anise-dark malt, secondary spice hops. Medium body. Good carbonation.

Sep 20, 2009 Sampled 9/11/2009. The European Strong Lager pours a very dark black color from a 12 oz bottle. Small to medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is roasty malts, coffee and some chocolate. A medium to full bodied black lager. The malts are caramel, chocolate, coffee and some dark fruits. The hops are grapefruity and floral. Nice carbonation. Really hides the alcohol well. There is a lot of chocolate and coffee flavors here, with just a touch of sweetness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Sep 17, 2009 I sampled this with some friends and thought it was a great brew. Not one bit of roasted flavor or aroma in this at all but black as night in color. Easy to drink and tasted pretty good too. lightly hoped for a stone brew

Sep 16, 2009 ( 12oz bottle, courtesy of BMan1113VR ) Pours a mahogany body with a small beige head. Aroma of grain, grass, apricot, pineapple, apple, cocoa, and grapefruit. Flavor of roasted malt, grass, orange, coffee, chocolate, bread, and grapefruit. Quite complex and interesting experimental brew.

Sep 16, 2009 Roast, chocolate, wood in nose. Very dark almost black with small tan head. Flavor of dark caramelized sugars, roast, chocolate with some woodiness and dark fruit notes. Spicy assertive hopping. Finishes dry and moderately bitter. Stout on lager yeast?

Sep 16, 2009 Jet black color. Unusual hop aroma from the Japanese and Kiwi hops. Almost like a stout IPA. Not so much a pilsner but excellent and complex beer.
