| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 15, 2009 Bottle thanks fo the amazingness of danielcurtis81. Shared with Ben and Trevor. Pours dark black with noticeable carbonation. Nose and flavor have a whole lot going on. Some citrus (noteably lime), fruit loops, hops, licoice, roasted something, and a bitter pilsner finish. If Pilsner were a style I liked, I would probably be more into this...it just has a slightly too bitter finish for my liking. Yet still I am eager to get into the two remaining bottles! Aggressively different. nearbeer (1874), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2009 12 oz. Opaque black with a lasting creamy eight-inch foam. Aromas of spicy cocoa, caramel, licorice, citrus, char and Irish coffee. Initial flavors of dark bittersweet chocolate, coffee, citrus, resin and caramel with a charred, vanilla-whiskey finish. Strong burnt roast, licorice and cured tobacco in the long aftertaste become more and more harsh and overpowering less than halfway through the bottle. Medium-heavy body is slightly sticky and extremely roasty dry. zizzybalubba (399), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 14, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet (thanks Kevin!). Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of pineapple and floral hops as well as some roasted malts. Strong espresso flavor blended with citrus hops. Creamy, full mouthfeel. This is a very interesting beer but not too unlike Smuttynose’s Imperial Stout when it was fresh and hoppy. I liked it a lot. TheBeerGod (3171), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 13, 2009 Bottle. A pricey 12 ounce one at that! Pours Very deep, dark opaque brown with a short tan head. Aroma is hoppy and roasty with bitter coffee and floral notes. Some citrus fruit as well. Taste is strong hops, roasted malts, floral notes, fruit, coffee, and dark chocolate. Alcohol towards the back end. Body is medium-full to full and chewy with a creamy, dense carbonation. Ends with more big hop notes, roasted malts, bitter coffee, bittersweet chocolate, fruit (orange, melon and pear) and soft alcohol. Kinz (2215), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Very deep brown, slight head. Aroma is roasty, coffee, rather stout like. Flavor is markedly different - loads of bitter hops, floral and anise. Very nice, though not apparently a lager in any traditional sense. Some alcohol heat present on the finish. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR. Clear brown pour. Mmm sweet chocolate aroma with the bite of alcohol. Very inviting aroma. Taste of sharp chocolate and dry bitter. There is a bit of an alcoholic bite but it sits very nicely on the palate. Finish has the sweet burn of bourbon. Nice. DalzAle (511), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2009 Bottle. Dark black pour, medium carbonation with a light dry hops aroma. Flavor was rich roasted malts, smoky peat and some bitter hops. Finish was silky, well balanced and lasting. I liked this one enough to go out and find another bottle to bring back in my luggage for the trip home! popery (198), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 11, 2009 Bottle. This beer pours deep and black with a relatively small off-white head. The color is a deep garnet when held up to a nearby light source. The aroma is surprisingly hoppy with a strong coffee note. It’s sweet with some rich malt aromas, as well. The flavor is a bit oversweet with roasted malt flavors, mainly sweet coffee. The hops are citric, minty and fairly strong. The beer is a bit sticky with malt sweetness, but it’s not nearly as bad as could be expected from a 10% abv "pilsner." I can understand how someone wouldn’t enjoy this beer - there are some strong, disparate flavors - but I find it appealing. It’s a bit pricey for a second take and I enjoyed the first Stone Collaboration beer a bit more, but I’m still glad I bought it.
