Black with a fizzy off white head. Very pleasant aroma blending roasted malts and hops with a nice floral rose quality and layered with chocolate and caramel syrup through out. Paradox would better describe the palate being both thick and not too heavy with a healthy chewy aspect. A roasty chocolate, caramel, coffee, vanilla, and licorice taste with dark woody tanins lingering in the finish. Certainly, one of the finest black lagers I have ever tasted.

Pours midnight Mahogany. Thick, persistent head. The nose is deceptive. Deceptively massive that is. I know there was no barrel aging but i am getting big doses of vanilla and coco. Loads of candied nuts, pecan pie maybe. Palate is lighter than u would expect on the nose, but seems to linger longer too. it is pilsner though right? Rich and smooth though. Nice bitters backing up the bigger flavors. Pilsner-esque dare i say. But over that it is dense and layered. Bitter chocolate, slightly boozey, coconut, what a crazy combo, the interaction of the massive hop bill and the massive malt of the dark malt totally recreate the qualities that barrel aged beer have. this beer is spot on. Well done.

12 oz. bottle. Pours black with a large tan head with good retention and moderate lacing. Aroma is initially citrus (lemon, grapefruit), but some dark chocolate, sweet cream and toasted bread comes through as it warms along with a touch of alcohol and some sort of very subtle metallic lager characteristic. Flavor is fantastically smooth with a decent bitterness, citrus, some light coffee and dark chocolate. malt dominant, but a touch of dryness comes through in the finish. Velvety smooth palate with generous carbonation.

Bottle ($8) from La Bodega in Riverside...Pours black with a creamy eggshell colored head... First thing I picked up in the aroma is sweet cream. After that I get some caramel but I don’t notice any hops.. None the less I really like the way this one smells.. Flavor upfront is sweet citrusy hops that really linger with you.. Roasted malts, burnt toast with some black coffee bitterness.. Super smooth carbonation that goes down way too easy.. My favorite of the three colaboration brews so far.. Bravo!

Corby112 gave a great description of this wonderful beer! I can only add what was going on in my head as I consumed and enjoyed and thought about the taste ....."this was $6"??? Don’t get me wrong it is worth it but the law of diminishing returns kicks in VERY FAST.

Dark roasted barley, rosemary, and onion aroma. Black pour, thin light tan head, minimal lacing. Medium body. Spicy rosemary, licorice, and charcoal flavor, with hints of grapefruit zest. Long lasting charred oak finish. Drinks more like a heavy schwarzbier than a black pils. I was expecting something altogether different. Quite unique. Great with mincemeat pie.

12 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet (thanks Kevin!). Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of pineapple and floral hops as well as some roasted malts. Strong espresso flavor blended with citrus hops. Creamy, full mouthfeel. This is a very interesting beer but not too unlike Smuttynose’s Imperial Stout when it was fresh and hoppy. I liked it a lot.
