Cask at The Rake, with renffisch, duff and harrisoni, 17th May 2008. Very dark brown with a lacy magnolia head. Wonderful smoky aroma and flavour, with subtle maltiness and nice balance. Smooth and light on the palate, this is very drinkable. A superb smoky mild, this is well worth tracking down.

Cask gravity @ Reading Beer Festival 2008.
Clear medium red brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, coffee, dusty, notes of smoke. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a average to long duration. (Malt bitter) Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is flat. (010508)

Cask gravity at Reading BF 2008. Very dark brown, bubbly beige head. Some hops on aroma. Some grainy choc and cereal. It’s not a bad little mild, bit grainy, but fine. Bit smokey, some hop on finish. Didn’t think it matched up to all the hype it had been getting.

Gravity at Reading Beer Festival 2 May 08. Golden colored. No head. Dark brown - almost black. A tiny filmy head. Lovely roasted aroma. A rounded flavor with coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. Even a subtle pleasant dry finish. A remarkable brew.

[cask at Reading Beer Festival] Thin but large-bubbled head which lasted to the end of the pint (and beyond - couldn’t get the blighter out of my glass!). tastes of everything - smoke, coffee, chocolate, malt, an odd twang of sharp citrus; all the flavours of a strong old ale squeezed into a very well balanced and easy-to-drink 2.7% beer that seems different in every mouthful. Simply astonishing - not just the best mild I’ve ever had, but very possibly the best beer.
