Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version.

Bottle in Sainsburys Festival. Batch No. 228. Best before 25/12/10. Bright copper orange. Small white head. Pine and orange hop aroma. Grapefruit taste with some sweetness and a sharp bitter finish. Extremely delicious, or as the youth say nowadays, ’It’s da bum.’

Bottle. Orange coloured pour with small head. Great hoppy aroma. Tastes hoppy, citrus, bitter/sweet, grapefruit. Quite complex for a UK DIPA. This beer is trying incredibly hard to emulate an American DIPA. I prefer American DIPA’s but now this is available in my local supermarket at a decent price, it’ll do just fine for now.

Bottle, best before 15 Jul 2010, batch 195. Orange/gold with minimal whte head. Fruity, resiinous aroma. The taste is excessively bitter and cloying. Not particularly enjoyable.

Bottle-old version. Bright gold, no head, hazy. Nose is hoppy and a bit spicy. Taste is slightly sweet, with this bottle maybe a bit old as the hops are bit stale. Very dry on the end with a small alcoholic kick-it’s pretty well hidden for a 9% beer. A decent beer but not life changing.

Bottled 33cl. Hoppy aroma with some malt showing up. Sweet taste. Reminiscent of Great Divide Hercules Double IPA. Boring. Decent.

550ml brown bottle purchased at The Liquor Shoppe in Tygsboro, MA. Pours a bit hazy golden amber body with a half inch of off-white head that dissipates rather quickly. Grapefruit and toffee equally share the aroma, hinting at a good malt backbone for this DIPA. Orange, lemon, grapefruit hit the palate first, with toffee and chocolate malts shortly thereafter to help balance and bring some complexity to the show. Full-bodied with moderate carbonation. This is a very easy drinking DIPA and is disappearing much faster than I’d like. This beer is phenomenal - bold but balanced, complex yet approachable. I’m impressed.
