Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. Pours hazy auburn with a i cm tall but very thick white head. Oranges, pine sap, mango, and grapefruit candy in the nose. Denser mouthfeel than the Punk IPA. Grapefruit and orange peel with resin in the taste, with that iced tea flavor. Biscuits. The malt is earthier than the Punk IPA, which seems to fit with the higher alcohol. Again, different than my usual West Coast IPA’s, but very good.

Cloudy light gold body with a bright white head. The aroma has some nice fresh baked bread and hints of orange flowers. Very subtle in the hopping, especially as they want this to be considered a IIPA. The taste is bread crust and iced tea. There is also a little bit of orange peel, but it is subtle. I would consider this more of a big amber rather than an IIPA. Still, a decent and very drinkable beer.

Hazy golden with a rocky white head. Grapefruit and earthy hops aroma. Creamy caramel taste with a decent bitter bite with a long dirty musty aftertaste.

Pours pure deep gold with white head. The aroma begins with moderate amounts of lightly roasted malts and then quickly moves to floral hops, sweet orange juice and hop earthiness. The taste starts with a nice thick mouth feel bringing in sweet malts mixed with floral hops that slowly become sweet orange juice and then turning more and more toward citrus hop bitterness. The flavor remains sort of even yet increasingly bitter with hops as the finish approaches. Not a favorite IIPA and due to the price I most likely won’t have a chance to try it again.

Bottle from Texas Liquor in Carlsbad. I have to say I was expecting much more from a beer labeled as hardcore. Lackluster appearance that looks more like frothy apple-juice. Short-lived head that settles to a bubbly white ring. Aroma is mild orange peel and mango. Where the hell are the hops? Unbalanced flavor with a weak malt base that leans towards lemon citrus notes. Again, where the hell are the HOPS? Medium carbonation and a finish that only shows off the high alcohol content. Not worth the $10.99 I paid for it. Weak sauce.

Bottle... Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8... Clear yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. The aroma is a marriage of earthy, spicy, citric and herbal hops. Full-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and standard carbonation. Big pale malt backbone, earthy hops and warm alcohol. Finishes bittersweet and boozy. Kudos to growler for sharing!

Pours a hazy orange with a very thin, bubbly head that dissipated quickly to a ring with only a bit of lacing. I honestly wasn’t too impressed with the appearance. The aroma seems to have a heavy sweet maltiness that overpowers any hop aroma. In fact, there’s not a lot of hops in the nose at all. The taste was bitter and acidic but not in a hoppy way. It tastes almost oxidized though the best by date is pretty far off. The taste had very little hoppiness and more malts and booze than anything. The mouthfeel was a little thin with almost no carbonation. This was not a very good DIPA in my book though maybe this one had gone bad. I’ll try some of their other IPAs and see what I think.

Bottle@Home. Thanks Yngwie. Malty, grapefruit, perfume aroma. Cloudy, dark yellow, white head, good lace. Sweet, malty, rather bitter, grapefruit, grassy. Sticky but dry in the very finish. Very flavorful, alcohol hidden, well drinkable.
