Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. Bottle shared by someone at BCTC ’08. Poured clear gold in color with a small white head. Aroma of piney and citrus hops. Tastes of grapefruit, orange peel, and mild piney hops. The hops were pretty underwhelming for this to be a double IPA.

Bottle courtesy of growler. Pours dark golden color with minimal white head. Mild hop aroma for a DIPA. Flavor is bitter pine hops, lemon and slight malt sweetness. Medium body with lively carbonation and a rough finish. I was hoping for more.

Date: 08/02/08, bomber courtesy of CelticBrew, shared with him, Doboy, and Steve E.

Aroma - Very piney hops start off, some woody and grassy aromas follow, with some citrus fruit as well

Appearance - Clear yellow gold pour, fleeting, foamy, white head.

Flavor - Pleasing caramel and toffee flavors combine with some fruitiness to bring out the sweetness. A soft, gentle bitterness rouonds things out. Nice balance.

Palate - Medium body, light carbonation, pleasingly dry in a medium/long finish.

Overall - A unique character compared to its American counterparts, but smooth, pleasing, and drinkable. Seems underappreciated to me.

Pours a moderately not really hazy, more of an inversion of sunny orange in the glass. Absolutely no head, but the aroma is lively citrus and a light sugar cookie maltiness. Piney, citrus hops and a flavor that tastes like I just bit into an orange, with a malt texture that comes through in the finish as slightly biscuity and dry. Smooth, but a bit grainy, and I think it is pretty good overall, I have of course had better takes on the style, but for me it drinks just fine and is horribly underrated. I’m happy to see something like this coming out of Scotland.

Pours lighter than expected with a light orange color. Head dissapears instantly. Smells of hops and strong alcohol. Taste was very bitter without much hoppiness. Strong presence of alcohol in the taste. The alcohol overpowers everything else. Not easy to drink, due to bitter alcoholic flavor. Finishes harsh.

22oz bottle courtesy of growler. Really nice nose, subtle hop aroma with alot of citrus and floral notes. Flavor was pretty bad. Really piney resinous hops and little citrus. Not pleasant at all. Very disappointing.

Courtesy Growler. Pours a pretty clear orange, with not much a head worth mentioning. Smells of sweet lemongrass, subtle hops, citrus, with some earth and floral notes. The flavor was a bitter, dead mess I thought. No life, hops seemed to mellowed out, and the earthiness of it really showed face which seemed out of place for a double IPA. Wasnt really feeling this brew at all.

Courtesy growler. Pours a clear, light golden orange color. A small, frothy, off-white head leaves virtually no lacing on the glass. The aroma is quite lemony, perhaps more so than any IPA I can recall. Lemongrass and hints of orange hops build upon a lightly toasty, bready, sweet malt background. Flavors are light and crisp, again showing lemongrass hops and delicate, lightly peppery floral notes. The palate is on the light side of medium-bodied, with balanced carbonation. There’s a touch of alcohol burn on the finish. It’s actually somewhat refreshing for a 9% ABV beer. Decent brew, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the better IIPAs out there.
