Pretty steep price tag, but this was the first time I’d seen this stuff so I figured I’d take a chance. Nice pale golden pour with a thick creamy head that promises cask-like palate deliciousness. The aroma was muted tropical fruits crossed with some modified bready notes, not so much fig newton as Christmas cookie if that makes any sense (sweet shortbread with some light fruits maybe). The hops aren’t too face-wrecking here, no mouth-puckering citrus or grassy intensity, just a pleasant amplification of a genuine Brit-style IPA. Nice and pleasant, but maybe that’s about it. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 4, 2008 Hazy and yellow-gold with a frothy, fairly lasting head. Smelled like cake and sugar cookies. Texture was smooth and creamy. Malts had a darkly toasted/burnt/grainy side and a dark-caramel sweet side. Hops were sharp (astringent grass and bitter grape skins). Alcohol was noticeable and nippy. Pinch of sourness in the finish. Bitterness lingered; somewhat starkly. I’m all about the bold, over-the-top beers, especially double IPAs, but this one seemed a little too rough around the edges. Not necessarily a drain pour, but I don’t think I’ll buy it again. Seemed more like a highly hopped malt liquor to me. pantani (1896), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2008 Gold with a thin white head. Aroma is malty, with a light fruitiness, very light hops. Taste is alcohol, malty, with faded hoppiness. The alcohol is harsh. IrishBoy (2706), Bakersfield, California, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 3, 2008 Updated: May 4, 2008660 ml bottle brought over by my Aberdeen friend, Bjorn! Batch 001 BB 03/03/09; Nose of light flowery hops, and sweet lightly buttered carrots; carrot juice orange with a small yellow head; flavor of hop bitterness, some sweetness in the fairly thick body, and a diacetyl note; not horribly strong but noticeable. Kind of like the Punk IPA. NosirIwont (1168), Aalborg Vestby, Denmark
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow with a small white head. Small lacing. Sweet candy hop aroma. Citrus and faint notes of yeast and wood appear as it warms. Round, strong flavour. Lots of hops. Remotely grainy, but not bad. You can feel the alcohol, but remarkably well-balanced considering the high percentage. Finish is all hops baby. Long, strong bitterness. Slightly oily palate. 30-04-08.
