Ernest (4197), Boulder, Colorado, USA May 15, 2008 Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is hazy dark yellow, unfiltered.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, bread), moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of alcohol, pear syrup.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Not much going on in the nose and very sweet, but the finishing bitterness cleans up the latter ok. Hard to drink much of it, but it’s certainly not unenjoyable. Overall not that impressed, even if not judged in the American DIPA mold.
juiceisloose (298), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 21, 2008 Courtesy growler. Pours a pale, golden orange color with a small white head. The aroma shows citrus hops, some floral characters, and a lot of lemon zest to go with the toast, caramel malt backbone. The flavor is crisp with a lot of lemon flavor, spicy floral character, and a good amount of hop bitterness. Medium bodied with good carbonation and a long bitter finish. This is pretty good and an interesting take on the style, but not in the same league as the better IIPA’s that are around. Beershine (1207), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 Clear, medium-gold, not much head. Hopped-up nose, lots of orange and lemon. Quaffable palate, smooth but strong. Hot and smooth at same time. Very good. Oakes (6823), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 Hazy straw and sort of flat-looking. Earthy, citrusy, woody hop nose with light pale malt backing. Moderate bitterness. Very dry, herbal hop character. Some toasty notes and an alcoholic finish. waolsen (950), Littleton, Colorado, USA Aug 15, 2008 bottle. golden/copper pour with thick frothy head. lacing. spicy, fresh hops, english style malt aroma. funky malts. hops are very bitter but lack character. sweet malts. light fruit. metallic tartness weekly chalanges bitterness. strange and unique. definitely a little disappointed. A double? doubleo (728), San Diego, California, USA Aug 14, 2008 650ml bottle, Batch 002. Pours deep, clear, straw yellow with a small, sticky white head, some lace. Smells sweet and earthy pine. Tastes of pineapple and some spicy, grassy hops. Different. Very sweet, somewhat hop resiny with some alcohol as well. Resiny sweet/bitter. Medium/full body with subdued carbonation. Bottle condition maybe?
