Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is very sweet and very hoppy, the hops giving it notes of elderberrises and grass - reminds me of first gold hops. The flavor is very sweet - with strong notes of caramel, and with a good mouthfeel. But it lacks bitterness, which in turn makes it a bit sticky in the mouth - give it more bittering hops and it’ll be great.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of Grovlam. Clear golden with a rough, white head. Extremely intense aroma of pine and peach. Fat body with plenty of malt - sweetish malt - and very fruity accents. The finish is hoppy with the fat, oily aroma hops shining through. Excellent. 301107

Bottled at Blackfriars, Glasgow. Pale amber. Heavy grapefruit aroma. Sweet malt dried out by severe amounts of sweaty grapefruity hops. Dense and caramelly with notes of gooseberries. Resiny very bitter finish. A but aggresive and on the sweet side.

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow/orange with a white head. Peach fruity and solid caramel malt flavour. Sweet malt flavour, slight dark towards mild smoked. Fruity hops lingering on top and lifting the brew up. Nice balance. Solid bitterness into the finish. Very nice.

Bottle. Light unclear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, fruit, toffee. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration. Very refreshing and easy to drink. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. (050208)

Bottled (thanks cgarvieuk!). Deep golden colour, not much head. Aroma is bigtime hops, some very diacetyliclike toffee mixed with grass and a bit hay. Flavour is big hops and toffeeish notes. Also some slight spicyness is noted. Seems like the bottle was infected? Goes on my "to-be-re-rated" list. 4 3 4 3 8

Re-rated Feb 2008@Old Anchor, Helsinki. Deep golden colour, with mediumsized white head. Aroma is a lot of fruity and flowery hops along with some mild spicyness. Flavour is quite much fruity and flowery hops along with some mild grass and spices. Well balanced and pleasant, and hides the alcohol well.

Bottle, 9%. Nice teaish hop aroma, not very powerful, though. Cloudy yellow colour, small white bubbly head. The flavour is quite bitter, teaish hoppiness with a little caramel. Slightly sweet, too. Low carbonation and nicely drinkable.
