Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.

Courtesy growler. Pours a clear, light golden orange color. A small, frothy, off-white head leaves virtually no lacing on the glass. The aroma is quite lemony, perhaps more so than any IPA I can recall. Lemongrass and hints of orange hops build upon a lightly toasty, bready, sweet malt background. Flavors are light and crisp, again showing lemongrass hops and delicate, lightly peppery floral notes. The palate is on the light side of medium-bodied, with balanced carbonation. There’s a touch of alcohol burn on the finish. It’s actually somewhat refreshing for a 9% ABV beer. Decent brew, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the better IIPAs out there.

Bottle, at Blackfriars, Glasgow. Deep golden colour. Intense aroma of fruity hops. The flavour is very hoppy (too hoppy for me) and quite alcoholic.

Batch 001 / Best Before 03/03/09

3/18/2009: I’ve really liked the last two Brew Dog brews that I have had, so I have high hopes for this one... Hardcore IPA explicit imperial ale is definitely loaded up with tasty hops. It has a huge level of perfume in both the aroma and flavor with just a touch of buttery malt. I really like the hoppy bitterness and slight alcohol bite. It really puts and aggressive front to this beer that works well. I am a bit surprised by how hazy/cloudy this golden beer is, but who really cares about the appearance anyways? That’s just a technicality that adds bonus points!

1 Pint, 6.4% Fluid Ounce bottle (Alc. 9% by Vol.) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #231 for this beer.

0.33 l bottle. Golden color with small head. Strong flowery, lemony, mangoish and catty hop aroma with tart fruity esters and some alcohol. Malty and honeyish flavor at first but then tart fruitiness, lemony hops and bitterness take the lead. Strong bitter fruity finish. Low carbonation. Good imperial IPA with nice nice interplay between malt, american hops and tart fruity esters.

This was one of the better regular brewdogs we got in. A little maltier but the butteryness and faint spices made a spectacular balance to the hops.

Bottle new batch. Golden and clear.Hops are clearly present but don’t take over as in some other brews of this style.Quite bitter with some fruitiness.Full bodied as you would expect. This brewery can do no wrong as far as I am concerned.
