Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

Bottle new batch. Golden and clear.Hops are clearly present but don’t take over as in some other brews of this style.Quite bitter with some fruitiness.Full bodied as you would expect. This brewery can do no wrong as far as I am concerned.

Bottle. Almost clear and golden in colour with a small off-white head. Quite hoppy and grassy with notes of flowers, pine and citrus. Not very well balanced - lacks sweetness.

pours a lifeless, hazy, murky gold with no head. juicy appearance. aromas of toffee, lemony hops, and tea. flavor is unique with a earthy, herbal tone, tropical fruits, and buttery toffee doughy tasting malts. hints of mint and other leafy greens. not very carbonated. a dash of alcohol shows in the finish. this is a weird one. not diggin’ it.

Batch - 207 / BBD 2/2/10 - Pours orange-ish light amber with a small off-white head. The aroma has sweet toasted malt, light caramel and minor toffee, but no noticeable hops - bad sign for an IIPA. Medium slick body with minor carbonation and a bit of a sickly feeling. The flavor starts with bread-like toffee malt with a definite smoothness to the taste. There are some slight woody hops, but that’s it. The finish has some medicinal and mineral traits. This doesn’t really strike me as a double IPA.

Four oz sample from a botttle at the 3 sons beer tasting.Yellow with some bubbly head, typical pale lage appearance. Strongish dull Ipa aroma. Some carbonation but mostly a big alky laden mildly hoppy beer. Don’t think this reaches douple IPA form. Rather smoothgoing down. Long bitter terrible linger for a finish. Almost on style.

Bottle: Poured a coppery amber with a light white head. The aroma is Fruit with a very hoppy nose tingling smell. The taste is hoppy and acidic on my tongue, very impressive. Finish is a dry bitter, but pleasant as well! What a first night in Glasgow....Karl even likes it.

Thanks to El Gordo for this bottle--Poured a rich light amber-golden body with a decent whitish top. Floral, caramel nose with a sticky, fruity hoppy presence. Mild yet sharp bitterness . Nice balance of hops and malts. A little thin on the mouthfeel, but overall, quite good.
