Lighter amber golden, aromas of sweet malts, fruity hop presence to boot. Marmalade like sweetness up front. floral notes, nice bitterness in the finish, nicely balanced that could use more bitterness. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2008 Gold with a thin white head. Aroma is malty, with a light fruitiness, very light hops. Taste is alcohol, malty, with faded hoppiness. The alcohol is harsh. TheGrandMaster (1862), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jul 23, 2008 Bottle (in New Zealand), pours a clear gold with a foamy white head. Yip, plenty of hops on the nose - almost nasal burning. Resiny mostly, just a hint of caramal malt int he background. Very smooth with toffee malt on the palate. The swallow releases the drying effect of the citrus hops, and also alcohol fumes that rise into the sinuses. The finish is surprisingly creamy, grassy with some aniseed. Packs a big punch this, and pulls that off pretty well. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 10, 2008 Courtesy Growler. Pours a pretty clear orange, with not much a head worth mentioning. Smells of sweet lemongrass, subtle hops, citrus, with some earth and floral notes. The flavor was a bitter, dead mess I thought. No life, hops seemed to mellowed out, and the earthiness of it really showed face which seemed out of place for a double IPA. Wasnt really feeling this brew at all. | 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Apr 17, 2008 Nose is absolutely full of diacetyl, with some mild hop accents (peach, nectarine, but that’s a stretch), it’s hard to get pass the diacetyl. Flavor is extremely dull, mostly loaded with diacetyl. Sorry, but this is an awful beer. Plain and simple. LinusStick (1847), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 12/20 | Jul 9, 2009 Blah....as far as IIPAs go this is not good at all. Aroma was good...but was all malt. Strong caramel and a hint of toffee. Pour was a cloudy dirty orange with a thin off white ring for a head and no bubbles. Taste was like a malt bomb. Like liquid caramel. Not much hops to speak of so the sweet malt takes center stage. This beer had absolutely no carbonation which kills it for me. Sweet almost iced tea like aftertaste. I’ll stick to American IIPAs nearbeer (1846), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2008 660 ml, batch 002. Clear, orange-gold with a small spit of a head that leaves a bit of frost. Earthy resin, caramel and lemon aroma. Flavor is similar, with the lemon, resin and woody hops bringing it on at the finish. Light-medium body is smooth, slightly hop-tingly and dryish. berkshirejohn (1826), Bracknell, Berkshire, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2009 330ml bottle from Sainsburys Bracknell, batch #156. Amber with a scummy white head; rich aroma of citrus, malt and honey; lively in the mouth with fresh, zingy, citrus, herbal, hop flavours; moving straight to a dry hoppy finish without a chance of the orange fruits and malts to fully develop. The alcohol is well masked by a rasping, herbal, beefy, finish. This could be a great beer, but it’s trying too hard.
