Strong caramel and a hint of toffee. Pour was a cloudy dirty orange with a thin off white ring for a head and no bubbles. Taste was like a malt bomb. Like liquid caramel. Not much hops to speak of so the sweet malt takes center stage. This beer had absolutely no carbonation which kills it for me. Sweet almost iced tea like aftertaste. I’ll stick to American IIPAs berkshirejohn (1831), Bracknell, Berkshire, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2009 330ml bottle from Sainsburys Bracknell, batch #156. Amber with a scummy white head; rich aroma of citrus, malt and honey; lively in the mouth with fresh, zingy, citrus, herbal, hop flavours; moving straight to a dry hoppy finish without a chance of the orange fruits and malts to fully develop. The alcohol is well masked by a rasping, herbal, beefy, finish. This could be a great beer, but it’s trying too hard. thornecb (1810), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 7, 2009 Happy best before date...7-7-9 - old version. Pours hazy amber into a tulip. Soapy, sickly white head with no retention leaves spiders as it recedes to bubble surface. Orange and resin aromas. Thick creamy caramel upfront and thin pine and resin in the finish. Alcohol well hidden. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 15, 2008 Bottle. Body-hazy light gold, loose foamy white ring of bubbles. Nose-lotion, light orange, light white spices, stale weak grapefruit, hops, high CO2. Taste-a little on the sweet side, piney, OK bitter level, mint/pine on the backend, tastes like a 1.5 IPA with no soul. OK, but nothing to write home about. lithy (1800), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Cloudy dark yellow honey color with a thin white head that never fully covers, just leaving a ring. Citrus and grapefruit hop aroma. Taste is lots of citrus and spicy hops with lightly grassy malt notes. Palidor19 (1792), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 7, 2008 660ml bottle from Warehouse Beverage, Cleveland Heights. Pretty steep price tag, but this was the first time I’d seen this stuff so I figured I’d take a chance. Nice pale golden pour with a thick creamy head that promises cask-like palate deliciousness. The aroma was muted tropical fruits crossed with some modified bready notes, not so much fig newton as Christmas cookie if that makes any sense (sweet shortbread with some light fruits maybe). The hops aren’t too face-wrecking here, no mouth-puckering citrus or grassy intensity, just a pleasant amplification of a genuine Brit-style IPA. Nice and pleasant, but maybe that’s about it. sunevdj (1786), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Aromas of some hops and a bit of wool. Big alcohol aroma too. Medium to full bodied and slightly oily. Not so good.
