Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

Thanks for sharing Chris! Pale yellow, clear with a big white head. Bigger past prime spicy Saaz style hops. Light sweetness. A bit herbal really. Creamy, a bit of viscosity with rather lower carbonation. Sweet light malt with peppery past prime hops. Again, herbal. simple. Much more like a malt-light euro strong lager! Baltica sorta territory.

22 oz bottle bb. 3/3/09 poured a golden color with a one finger white head and steady carbonation. aroma has thick sweet malt, grass, mild citrus and hops. mouth feel is medium with hefty carbonation. flavor has bittering hops, grass, floral honey sweetness, and chewy malt. sweet and bitter but lacking in the pine and citrus. perhaps this bottle sat at the store for a while but it is not quite imperial level.

Bottle. Golden orange color with a small white head. Spicy, citric hop aroma. Ruddy, appley malt character with a spicy and earthy hop component. Slightly medicinal hop flavors in the finish with stale caramel. Mouthfeel is a heavy medium, somewhat drying.

Bottle. (new batch -- best before 02/02/10). Aroma is surprisingly malty, along with assertive hops and some citrus. Hazy orange body, small head. Flavor is nicely bitter, and more pine than citrus. Bitter finish. Not bad, but not especially great.

Very sweet malty aroma. Clear red orange pour with a small white head and good lacing. Definitely a change from your usual IIPA. A little bitter, but the diecytal note (and butterscotch) is strong and to make it enjoyable. I was able to finish this, but I won’t be trying this again. Somewhat of a letdown.
