Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

Cask at The Pub downtown at 4th street live. 10 oz snifter pour. Dark slightly hazy brown with a big creamy long lasting beautiful and dense white head. Nice juicy citrus hops on the aroma and flavor. A bit boozy flavor. Soo smooth and creamy and perfect on the palate: god I LOVE cask ale. Overall: a very enjoyable brew, though I cant imagine it would be too special not on cask.

BB 02-02-10, batch 207, old version? The pour is marginal at best with a clear, pale orange color and a small, white, pillowy head which diminishes quickly to almost nothing and leaves no lace. Nose is pretty weak and certainly not hoppy; some butterscotch, buttery sweet bread, toasted grain, and apples. Flavor is a bit better with light toffee, buttered breads, toasted grains, mineral notes, light tangerine, and a more than moderate bitterness but astringent. Palate is light to medium, oily, watery, and soft to lively. Finish is astringent, bitter, and minerally. I understand it is an English style IPA but nothing in this one works. Did not finish my glass, let alone the bottle; not good.

Sad dull copper body with a pathetic looking cap floating on top. Watered down dull caramel malts, pine/floral hops and sweet aroma. WTF this is so soft and flat feeling the beer feels lifeless taste ok though I guess. Nice malty backbone with sweet floral hops and a dark bitter finish. Yecklwshabthad this feels nasty it like I’m wrapping my tongue in a slimy wet blanket. Tangerine and tobacco flavours are starting to appear. Still drinkable but I’ll never buy it again.

Pours lighter than expected with a light orange color. Head dissapears instantly. Smells of hops and strong alcohol. Taste was very bitter without much hoppiness. Strong presence of alcohol in the taste. The alcohol overpowers everything else. Not easy to drink, due to bitter alcoholic flavor. Finishes harsh.

Interesting cereal taste to this beer. Nicely backboned, but not a hell of a lot otherwise. Looks like natural cider and tastes almost a bit like it too. Increased overall impression score due to its uniqueness, but wouldnt buy this again.

Bottle from Cornelius Edinbrugh, november 07. Sweet almost syrupy matliness, with some strong fruity notes and fruity hops flavor. Alcohol almost unnoticable albeit the obvious warmth for a 9%. Full to medium mouthfeel, tasty and big, but a bit too clumsy and obnubilating at some points. Lasting earthy aftertaste. Nice, earthy spicy hops aftertaste. Fruity, spicy slighty piney aroma. Nice but not up to par with flavor. Clear, rather pale golden color with a small white head. Powerfull, flavorfull strong IPA.

12 oz bottle in November (don’t know the BBD). Cloudy golden color, white head. Hoppy aroma with pine notes. Bitter, hoppy flavor with some alcohol, biscuity malts and grapefruit, dry finish. Full body, medium-light carbonation. It’s ok.
