Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

Comments: Very sweet IPA with rather extreme maltiness, highly fruity (pumpkin, peach, dried apricot) and swiftly switching to alcohol/dry/bitter citrus fruits with no warning.

Blackfriers. This was vented then sealed back up, i just opened it again last nite to see how it was getting on. I started with a half pint then had an full pint after my shift. I’ll rate both accordingly. HALF: Aroma is noteably cat pee off the hops, very grassy with peppery hints oif alcohol. Taste hits your tougne with bittering hops, a hint of butteryness rolls through a syrupy sweetness thats full of grassy lime zest goodness, then the bitterness kicks in just in time to balance it out. The alcohol is noteable esspecially in the finish, leaves the mouth pluckering and knowing its been punished (4.0) FULL PINT: Aroma has loads of grassy hops, biscuity caramel sweetness, a citrus zest makes you want to start drinking it while your still just smelling it. Taste bursts onto your mouth peppery grassy hops balanced with a sweet biscuity hints of toffee malt sweetness, again the citrus flavours kick in just when they should do. Throughout the cat pee trys to kick in but is held back by all the other flavours. The finish is dry and pluckering, and says well that was quite an experiance but when are you going to give me more? This beer in itself is a taste revolution for british brewing. Like i was sitting in black friers just having a pint of imperial IPA, that just doesnt happen in britian, anywhere. Its just an amazing thing that such an intence outstanding beer is being brewed here, and heres to it!

Bottle... Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8... Clear yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. The aroma is a marriage of earthy, spicy, citric and herbal hops. Full-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and standard carbonation. Big pale malt backbone, earthy hops and warm alcohol. Finishes bittersweet and boozy. Kudos to growler for sharing!

Clear yellow color with a thin white head. Sweet malty aroma with hoppy floral notes and some vague fruityness. Hoppy, piney bitter flavor with floral notes. Light sweet and hoppy fruity finish.

Bottled. Golden coloured. Unclear. Fluffy off white head. Sweetness, fruits, pine, flowers and spice in the aroma. Flavour is very herbal and piney. Has loads of spice, a tad of alcohol and some notable sweetness. Quite balanced. Medium to full bodied. Is medium to heavy bitter in the end, but a touch of sweetness balance this. Very nice.

Bottle courtesy of magic_dave. Pours gold with a white head. Smells of citrus, perfume, apples. Tastes of resin, lots of bitterness, dry malt, some spice, caramel. Nice!
