Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

Clear golden color, dense tan head. Cheese scent, mostly "grønmøgelost". Hoppy and cheese taste. Long lasting bitterness and cheese aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, high bitterness.

330ml bottle (Angleterre, Helsinki, IPA weeks 2008)
Pale greeny yellow, tiny head. Slightly chemical aroma - sweet plasticky malt, some hops too. Sticky hoppy mouthfeel. Malty and hoppy taste - some roastiness in the malt. Also tastes of alcohol. Finish perverts the taste into an astringent chemical mush of synthetic byproducts and alcohol. Not big and not clever. And the label’s full of self-indulgent bullshit.

Bottle that I picked up at Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon and consumed at Cropredy Festival 2008 Pours light gold with a nice white head. There is a slight thick honey sweetness and its hoppy with also some lovely silky, citrusy, and tangy sweetness. This really was quite hoppy but I’d had the Ruination beforehand so I think the effect had been diminished ever so slightly, still this is a great beer.

Bottled. Slightly hazy golden. Almost no head. Sweet, perfume-ish, fruity aroma and flavour. "Sweaty socks" was a comment from an ipa-rookie...

Bottle, Blackfriars, Glasgow. Deep golden colour, solid white head. Sweet and hoppy, where sweetness dominates. Would gain from ageing. At present, t’s just a mish-mash of bold, sweet big-ness.

Bomber poured a hazy gold with a lasting off white head. Aromas of toffee, light carmel, light pine, light earthiness and a hint of citrus. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, grapefruit peel, light pine, light earthiness and a hint of diacytel with a smooth lingering bitter finish.

1 pint, 6.4 fl oz bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Batch 001. Pours hazy orange with a small, rocky, white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (grain, straw), heavy hops (perfume, pine, grapefruit, flowers), average yeast (dough) with notes of pear and apricot. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness.
