Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

Pours amber, slight head. Tropical fruit and hops on the nose, as well as in taste. Candi sugar sweetness balances out the bitterness quite well. Enjoyable.

Bottle @ SBWF 2009. Amber and very drinkable Double IPA. Distinct hop flavor but not as sweet and heavy as expected.

Nice pine and tahitian treat aromas. I dig the tropical fruit flavor and the hoppy bitterness kept in check by a balancing sweetness.

New version. Bottled. Blonde. Pineapple, grapefruit and oily and flowery hops in both aroma and flavor. Good mix of tropical fruit and hopbitterness. Just a bit alcoholic, but tasty and well balanced.

Bottle, 9%. Nice teaish hop aroma, not very powerful, though. Cloudy yellow colour, small white bubbly head. The flavour is quite bitter, teaish hoppiness with a little caramel. Slightly sweet, too. Low carbonation and nicely drinkable.

Bottle from Rivers Bend. Poured a hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bitter flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a very drinkable beer and my expectations where met.

This was from batch 261 and dated best before 20/09/10. The batch number bears no relation to the 037 in the Admin note but from the BBD it would seem to be the new recipe. It poured a hazy orange with a small white head and light lacing. The first whiff of the the nose is apple, and then it moves toward citrus, flowers, and even some pine. Full and rich mouthfeel. Flavor is a good balance of caramel malts and bitter hops, leading to a long bitter alcoholic finish from the 9% ABV brew.

Bottle at home. BBD 31/12/2008. Hazy yellow with a small head, some lacings. Aroma heavy malty (caramel) and hoppy (citrus notes). Flavor heavy sweet and bitter, despite that smooth. Full body. Delicious.
