Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

22oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold color with a one finger head that diminished quickly. Light aromas of fresh bread, alcohol, and light hints of citris and banana. Tastes of stong alcohol and citris with a sweet begining and a very bitter finish. Medium to heavy on the palate with a creamy feeling on the mouth and good carbonation. For me, this beer would be greatly improved with less hops at the begining of the boil and more at the end to bring out more hop flavor and aroma. Overall a very good beer, but for the price I would not buy again.

Bottle. Cloudy copper pour with a huge white head. Somewhat hoppy nose, but the malt, yeast and butter dominate. Hoppy flavor with a sweet malt balance, some pepper and a buttery finish. Not bad, but would have preferred for the hops to be more pronounced.

Bottle from Brewdog web shop. Citrusy aroma. Hops and butter tasting. I shared the bottle and it was enough since it got kind of repeating.

Golden color with a white head. Aroma of weak citrus hops and a little alcohol. Flavor is pretty sweet and malty and the finish is very bitter and hoppy. Different but not in a good way.

Bottled at Blackfriars, Glasgow. Pale amber. Heavy grapefruit aroma. Sweet malt dried out by severe amounts of sweaty grapefruity hops. Dense and caramelly with notes of gooseberries. Resiny very bitter finish. A but aggresive and on the sweet side.

Bottled 330ml. -Courtesy of and shared with Doggythedog (thanks!). Batch No. 220
Clear golden coloured, small white head, honeyish nose with traces of alcohol. Sweet malty, bitter hoppy and strong alcoholic with notes of citrus and grapefruit. Expected much better beer.
