Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

One of the best "non-american" IPA’s I’ve tried in a while. Pours almost a golden yellow, very hoppy and citrus notes to the nose, and taste, not bitter or sour, just right!

Oct. 22, 2009 On Cask at Frisco’s Cantina, Columbia, MD. Advertised at 150 IBUs: This beer poured from grafity tap with good caronation, with a golden orange color. Aroma was fruity with pine overtones. Very aromatic. Taste was a mouth full of hops, gentley at frist then spreading accross the pallet. The hoppiest IPA I have ever had.

Bottle in Sainsburys Festival. Batch No. 228. Best before 25/12/10. Bright copper orange. Small white head. Pine and orange hop aroma. Grapefruit taste with some sweetness and a sharp bitter finish. Extremely delicious, or as the youth say nowadays, ’It’s da bum.’

Whilst hoppiness dominates this lovely beer, very much in the US craft brewery style, it also has a sticky sweet taste, which is a perhaps a little over the top for me. Nonetheless the malt and citrus notes that also come through make this, for me, an excellent example of the IPA style. Lets have more UK beers in this style please.

Ok, I think I had the new version, as the distributor in my area just picked this up about a month ago, but I didn’t taste the bottle at home so I will check.... Pours light amber with a nice off white head. Aroma is big citrus and tropical fruit. Flavor is big citrusy hop with all kinds of tropical fruit hop flavor. Pretty nice.

This was one of the better regular brewdogs we got in. A little maltier but the butteryness and faint spices made a spectacular balance to the hops.

Hops hops and more hops. for hardened hop head only. reminiscent of the american trend of double IPAs. This would have scored much higher but for a little harsheness and rawness round the edges. Tasted perhaops a bit young. Still a wonderfully progressive and ’hardcore’ beer. amazing flavours with a huge bitter bite
