Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

From the new 22.4 oz bottle. Best before 10/29/10. Purchased for 5.99, a lot cheaper than these use to be. Pretty good stuff actually, better than I expected it to be. very drinkable IIPA. Not too bitter and not too sweet. A solid bitterness lingers on the tongue though. A light piney and earthy flavor to this one. Pretty solid IIPA that I would drink again if i know its fresh.

New Version Clear dark amber/orange. Decent head with lace. Herby/resiny hoppy aroma, slightly sweet. Very hoppy flavor with resiny/herby/slighlty woodsy notes. Also graefruit and a good amount of tangy rasberry/strawberry. Very good, different sweet flavor profile from most IPA’s.

Old version, poured amber with a nice lasting head. Aroma was floral and herbal, with slight burnt malts. Taste was british hops up front, with some burnt toast malt that leads to a hop bitterness in the end. Overall a decent DIPA, but not the usual flavors.

Serious bitter hop aroma. Both oak and cat-piss. Tangerine and grapefruit. Tremendous. Appears hazy yellow, like a hefe. Little to no head. Tiny, stray, upfloating bubbles. Pale amber/gold. Flavor is blood orange and tangerine. Bitter grapefruit aftertaste. All citrus with a mild okay aftertaste as well. Roasted burnt cookie malts. The palate is thick and creamy. A nice bitter fizz. An outstanding beer. Hops of a harvest ale; malts of a burnt nature.

Bottle. Poured a slightly hazy yellow gold color. The head was two fingers high and consisted of big, soapy white bubbles. Equally matched malty caramel and fruit in the nose with a whiff of pine. Fruit aromas included pineapple, apricot, and orange. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with moderate bitterness. Pine was more prominent than the fruit in the flavor with a strong malty caramel and toasted bread backbone.

Bottle. Batch #261 BBD 20/09/10. A medium golden color with minimal head. It seemed a little flat. A syrupy sweet aroma dripping with pine and hops. A sharp bitter bite.

Batch 207 2/2/2010 - smells like bad Homebrew from 3’ away. Taste is no better. $8.99 down the drain - literally.

Cask, 2nd annual Buffalo Cask Festival @ Cole’s. Nose is caramel, a bit of piney hops, but mostly alcohol & medicinal aromas. Flavor is caramel, honey, piney hops, a little resin. Bitter largely toffee finish. Kind of like an old bottle of DFH 90 minute.

On cask, pours light amber with lots of head. Lots of dry hopping and pepper, the taste was overpowering.
