IPA originally was pale ale that was aged slightly; Hardcore IPA is a Double IPA in that style, but updated of course, with modern twists. With this said, if you are seeking a West Coast, heavy carbonated, heavily hopped IPA, this is not your bottle of beer.
Hardcore, had little carbonation, no substantial head, even with a sloppy pour. The color was dark orange amber so slightly darker then most modern IPAs’. The Smell was rich; I could tell much of the flavors of the IPA from the smell. The smell is hard to describe, but has a rich malt smell to it that is balanced off with slight citrus overtones.
When I first tasted a sip no bitter hop taste punched my palate, instead a bold rich creamy malty taste with a mild almost unnoticeable taste of citrus tasting hop. The after taste does hit you with hoppy bitterness though it hits in a way unlike any ale I have ever drunk. The malty first flavor seems to fully develop and then disappear as a hoppy bitterness appears. It s very sticky in the mouth and the taste lingered on my palate for around thirty minutes.
Hardcore contains more malt then most IPA’s which gives it a slight barley wine type taste though without the sweetness. It seemed like BrewDog did it in the traditional UK classic way, but with more hops. Over all one of the best unique imperial IPA’s I have ever had; it truly is far different from any Imperial IPA I have had, it’s a shame I only had one bottle.

Poured a soap bubble off white head and good lace. Color is a fairly clear medium to light amber. Aroma is a little earthy, simple, and nice. Flavor’s about the same. Body is good and so is carbonation. Finish is about the same. Say good night dick. mesperon (151), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA

Clear dark amber/orange. Decent head with lace. Herby/resiny hoppy aroma, slightly sweet. Very hoppy flavor with resiny/herby/slighlty woodsy notes. Also graefruit and a good amount of tangy rasberry/strawberry. Very good, different sweet flavor profile from most IPA’s. arminjewell (150), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Old version, poured amber with a nice lasting head. Aroma was floral and herbal, with slight burnt malts. Taste was british hops up front, with some burnt toast malt that leads to a hop bitterness in the end. Overall a decent DIPA, but not the usual flavors. williamherbert (475), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Serious bitter hop aroma. Both oak and cat-piss. Tangerine and grapefruit. Tremendous.
Appears hazy yellow, like a hefe. Little to no head. Tiny, stray, upfloating bubbles. Pale amber/gold.
Flavor is blood orange and tangerine. Bitter grapefruit aftertaste. All citrus with a mild okay aftertaste as well. Roasted burnt cookie malts.
The palate is thick and creamy. A nice bitter fizz. An outstanding beer. Hops of a harvest ale; malts of a burnt nature. GeneralGao (3072), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Bottle. Poured a slightly hazy yellow gold color. The head was two fingers high and consisted of big, soapy white bubbles. Equally matched malty caramel and fruit in the nose with a whiff of pine. Fruit aromas included pineapple, apricot, and orange. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with moderate bitterness. Pine was more prominent than the fruit in the flavor with a strong malty caramel and toasted bread backbone. jazz88 (2239), San Francisco, California, USA

It seemed a little flat. A syrupy sweet aroma dripping with pine and hops. A sharp bitter bite. chronictonic (404), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA
