stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Sep 27, 2008 12 oz bottle from Bev4less. Pours an opaque dark brown with a small cream head that soon fades to a fine film leaving some lacing. The aroma is musty with roasted grains, oak, coffee, something fruity, and a touch of whiskey. The taste is rich with coffee, roasted malts, oak, a touch of whiskey and biter walnuts. The mouthfeel is full smooth and creamy. The finish is medium in duration and dry. Overall: A very enjoyable impy stout, not much whiskey character, but then it is a beer. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Sep 25, 2008 Courtesy of tpd975. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. The aroma is mild with roasty to chocolate malts being covered up by ample amounts of booze followed by a hint of wood and searing hotness on a big draw. The taste is mild and smooth as indicated by the nose. I get notes of mild peat to earthiness followed by a smooth and gentle roasty to chocolate maltiness. The finish approaches with lingering sweetness, notes of Scotch booze, lingering faint wood notes and a mild warming sensation. Wow, milder experience than what I was expecting. Smooth and very drinkable. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA Sep 20, 2008 Black with a short lived creamy tan head. Roasty aroma with chocolate and alcohol notes. Smooth velvety palate. Chocolate, berries, dark roasted coffee, and mellow scotch taste. Very smooth finish with warming scotch tastes lingering in the back of the throat. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 16, 2008 Bottle. Poured a deep black into a snifter with a small brown head. Aroma of scotch, bitter chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor of scotch whiskey and coffee. A little warming alcohol on the end. Even some fruity notes in the middle. Low carbonation and full bodied. Good. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 15, 2008 Updated: Sep 25, 2008Bottle... Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8... This beer rocks! ... Pours black with a creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. Understated, earthy, acrid aroma offers up subtle notes of chocolate, tobacco, wood and smoke. Full-bodied and velvety with medium carbonation. Balanced nicely. Sweet chocolate; bitter, woodsy alcohol. Chocolaty finish. Thanks go out to growler for sharing this world class bottle of beer! puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Sep 15, 2008 Bottle ordered online, though apparently it is now available locally. Swirling this initially reveals an ugly, formaldehyde aroma, but after sitting for a couple minutes that disappears and a very deep, complex aroma shows up, with light chocolate, scotch, brine, and seaweed. Very deep in flavor, with a perfect briny scotch, not overwhelming, but relaxed and great The scotch notes in this are top notch. scraff (1920), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2008 Tasting - Perfect Pour. Deep blackish brown, thick dark tan head. Intense bitter roasted chocolate and coffee oak aromas are well layered over notes of dark berry and coconut. Whiskey and black coffee flavors upfront balance well on woody coconut and chocolate berry tones. Nice late bitter hop component pull this together very well. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A great sipper... lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 5, 2008 Served at room temp per the label’s suggestion. An aggressive pour yields a pitch black body covered with only a slight dark tan head that recedes to a random pile of floating islands. Strong woody, peat scotch aromas with apparent roasted malts. Nice and smooth body is not overly heavy. The roasted body is powerful but overshadowed by the excellent scotch and hop finish that blends and leaves a lasting impression of a fine single malt scotch sitting on the tongue.
