Nose of dark pit fruits, toffee, oak, light vanilla notes. A little less viscous than expected. A great brew, a little underrated in my opinion. sebletitje (1997), Tampa, Florida, USA

Aroma of chocolate, amazing sweet caramel for a near lactic sweetness, hints of vanilla and wood.
Flavor, well crafted brew for sure, cask/wood presence is not over the top, followed by dark roasted malts, light chocolate, coffee adding a nice sweetness to the palate. Hints of vanilla, light wood with tobacco/char mouthfeel. Not overly boozy, easy sipper. Pleasantly surprised compared to other Brewdog beers. mar (1972), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 6, 2008 Tasting - Perfect Pour. Deep blackish brown, thick dark tan head. Intense bitter roasted chocolate and coffee oak aromas are well layered over notes of dark berry and coconut. Whiskey and black coffee flavors upfront balance well on woody coconut and chocolate berry tones. Nice late bitter hop component pull this together very well. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A great sipper... tronraner (1938), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 18, 2008 12 oz bottle, tasted side by side with the Speyside batch 005. Pours black with thin dark beige head. Aroma is espresso, chocolate, barrel char, oak, vanilla. The flavor is quite rich, with an impressive peat smoke quality. There is bitter chocolate and oaken vanilla, as well as a pleasant roastiness. The finish has some ashy sourness and a little bit of alcohol, but it is not as boozy as some of the others in the series. Good stuff. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 26, 2008 Updated: Jan 15, 200912 oz, bb12/12/09. Opaque black with a small but lasting head resulting from second try at a hard pour. Leaves some crunchy swiss-cheese lacing behind. Aromas of coffee, cocoa, vanilla, caramel and light apple. Flavor is the same, with some touches of whiskey, smoke and peppery oak. Medium-heavy body is watery, very lightly carbonated, and roasty-dry. Good, but this whole barrel-aged series would be improved with the use of a bigger, maltier Impy stout recipe.
