Typical qualities of an Imperial Stout are present, with just a hint of smokiness, lots of roasted chocolate and a strong graham cracker maltiness throughout. This just needs a little more oomph for my tastes. doubleo (1111), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 5, 2008 11.2oz bottle. Pours black with virtually no head. Smells dark malty and complex woody, peaty, slightly sweet with some booze. Tastes sweet roasty and dark malty with some sweet wood and a bit of bitterness from the wood and alcohol. Nice sipper. Medium/full body with okay carbonation. Hophead22 (1090), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2008 bottle. Poured a very dark brown color, not much of a head. Slight bourbon aroma, kind of smell the alcohol. Very smooth, dark sweetness to it, very good. chicagodri (1057), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and just a little touch of whiskey. This is actually very mild and smooth, I was expecting a lot more whiskey flavor and thought it might be a little more bold. Still good though. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Pours black with a ring of brown bubbles. Let it sit until it nears room temperature. I enjoyed the base, Riptide Stout, in the meantime. Aroma is heavy with Speyside malt, salt, peat, coffee, dark chocolate, wood, leather, and smoked malt. The taste is incredible. The bitter, roasty, smoky, coffee and chocolate flavors are all there, but now with the peat and alcohol from the scotch. It all swirls in your mouth. As it gets warmer, tobacco, oak, earthy oats, and vanilla pop up from time to time. Took a while to sip, but I liked it that way. Worth every penny. kkearn (1003), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Beautiful aroma, with vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate, and scotch. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, butterscotch, dark fruit, scotch and toffee. Coffee and vanilla finish, with some scotch highlights. Excellent beer; my favorite Paradox thus far. fidel (964), Livermore, California, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 27, 2008 The pour was dark, dark brown with a compact tan head. Minimal flecks of lacing. The aroma was malt, earth, oak, smoke, booze, light tart fruit and coffee. The flavor was smoke, tart fruit, coffee and a splash of scotch. The mouthfeel was disappointingly thin. An OK beer that was very expensive. Would not recommend unless it’s free.
