Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Chocolate malt, woody notes, some oak and maple. Vanilla roast y bitterness. Still smooth and lush for 10%. Nice.

330 ml bottle, best before 2/12/08? Dark brown with some tan froth. Nose is chocolate, molasses and oak with a touch of whiskey. Medium light, faint carb; comes off a bit watery. Taste is chocolate, raisin and anise finishing with vanilla, greens and sour mash. A smooth sipper that benefits from warming. Hard to believe it’s 10%.

(Bottle) Pours dark brown to black with a light brown head. The aroma holds heavy vanilla, medium wooden and light whisky tones from the oak. Quite bourbon-ish. Nice liquorice and dark chocolate backbone. Mild undertones of dark fruits/raisins, sweaty brown sugar, roses, nuts, toffee, tar and salt. The flavour is near medium sweet and light bitter with notes vanilla, wood, asphalt, light molasses/brown sugar, liquorice, salt and light chocolate/coffee roast. Light numbing alcohol. The mouthfeel is round and light sticky with a light carbonation. Light tannins and peppery wood in the finish. Medium to full bodied. The wood and vanilla-driven Paradox beers are much better than the super smoky ones - it plays better with the malt profile.

Bottle. Pours deep dark brown with a with no head. Aromas of fresh wood, bourbon vanilla and molasses sugar. Smooth and oily texture. Sweet and roasted flavour with notes of licorice, coffee, vanilla and chocolate. This paradox turned out great!

WOW. What an amazing beer! Pours out a dark dark brown with hints of red on the edges, mid-sized light brown crown that could be thicker, leaves lots of fine spotty, silty lacing. Smooth aroma of tobacco, vanilla, chocolate and whiskey hit first followed by black cherries, plum, liquid smoke and dark roasted malts. I already plan on cleaning out the local seller of this stuff - 5 bottles isn’t enough to keep me going! The flavour is excellent - clean and smooth, nothing rough about this stout even at 10%.... by the way, where the hell is that 10% (aside from sinking into my skull)? More tobacco, vanilla, whiskey (light), dark roasted malts, slight notes of alcohol, chocolate. Although the aroma and flavour have the same qualities they do not come across the same, if that makes any sense. Pretty much has full bodied qualities without coming across thick. Smooth and soft with a slight sweet middle and finishes with a dry dark roast (nears burnt... burnt sugar maybe) and the lightest of hops. A perfectly blended stout, no hop assault what so ever, no overwhelming qualities, just an excellent and enjoyable beer. Find it and stock up if you can. Awesome.

"This is black, my glass has become a black hole of color where nothing can escape. The crown was small and short lived only a small film remains on top. Aroma is powerful, loads of vanilla, warm alcohol, rye, oak and is very sweet. The oak aging the beer has gone through is very noticeable and this has such a distinct rye aroma if I was blind folded and just smelt it I could be convinced it’s a rye and coke. Tons of sweet vanilla in the flavor, oak, mild bitter chocolate and burnt dirt are all in this taste. Dark fruit and or sweet berries are showing up but not in every sip. The alcohol is becoming far more noticeable the warmer the beer gets and its going straight to me head. I’ll say the only complaint I have about this beer is it’s a touch thin and flat feeling in my opinion. This is great I’m normally not a fan of oak aged beers but this is the first time I’ve had it in a stout and in this style it’s amazing. Got me a few more of these in the cellar I think they’ll stay for a few more years. "

Smooth, deceievingly easy drinking. Some grainy alcohol. Not as interesting as the malt cask versions IMHO - but wee worth trying.

Batch 007. Black with a middle sized and rather dense head. The aroma has clear notes of whisky, sweetness, vanilla, roasted malt and sweet licorice. The flavour has notes of smooth grain whisky, roasted malt, vanilla, light sweetness, light licorice, a roasted, light bitter-sweet bitterness and a dry, roasted finish.
