Commercial Description:
Bottled, Special;
Port Dundas 1966 We set about to unite two of Scotland proudest heritages and produce a product which combined all that was good about Scotland’s whisky producing history and our contemporary take on a traditional Scottish style of stout. The fact that we have developed this product in conjunction with Duncan Taylor Ltd of Huntly means we mature our beer in the casks that once housed some of the most prestigious whiskies available today. The distinct flavours of these whiskies is beautifully infused into the beer giving a unique and unrivalled experience for both beer and whisky lovers. Paradox is produced in very small batches and each batch is bottled in a unique numbered limited edition bottle.

Port Dundas ’66 cask, bottle from Tiffany’s in Kmazoo. Pours flat black. Aroma has some chocolate, roasted malt and a nice barrel aged component. Flavor is smooth and dark, some dark chocolate and dark roast malt/coffee. Very nice whisky undertones yet slightly sour and possibly a bit oxidized. Says best before 2/2/10, glad I got one of these near the end of life as the 10% seems to have calmed a little. Overall very thin and smooth. Not bad at all.

Fairly nice and complex brew. Pours a deep black with a pencil thin head. Aroma is nice, full of sugar, vanilla, toffee and whiskey. Flavor is much the same, with touches of smoke and brown sugar. Nice!

Pours a very dark opaque black with almost no head to speak of. The aroma is fantastically complex with smells of sweet sugars and beets that come alongside rich black licorice and fine notes of strong whisky. With the whisky come aromas of deep vanilla and wood giving way to a more earthy peat aroma and a hint of smoke as well. Incredible aroma!! The flavor immediately tastes like a soft whisky giving off flavors of earth and is a bit smokey. There are rich sweet malty flavors of brown sugar and deep fruits as well. Finish is surprisingly easy. Not much carbonation and no lacing on the glass.

Dark deep brown with a nose highly reminiscent of whisky, no surprise here. The peat comes through. I really like the deep smokey vanilla caramel, toffee and a hint of nuttiness. This is a good wine that would go nicely with a good cheddar or perhaps a blue.

Bottle Batch 013 BBD 02/02/10. Pours a deep coffee brown with a small beige head. Soft nose of peat smoke, some cocoa as well. Flavor was lightly smokey and a little boozy. Finish was again a little watery.

Draught at Ølbaren. Pitck black with a thick longlasting brown head. Aroma is light roasted with notes of fruit, cocoa and mild coffee. Flavous is chocolate, coconut, bourbon and vanilla. Ends up rather sweet. Creamy texture.

Bottled. Old-ish bottle. Black colour, low, bubbly pale white head. One-dimensional aroma with overpowering vanilla from the oak. The dark malt character is just not there. Vague tartness. Light-medium bodied with sweet, sticky sugars, and way too much of vanilla. Where’s the toast, roast, smoke, chocolate, licorice, coffee? Add a variation of dark malts including smoked and let it sit in oak casks for a little shorter period. Not even a bitterness is sensed. And where’s the fieriness?

Cask in the rake. Alround rating: Loads of whisky alcohol, small tartmness showing signs of oxidation, burnt black malt and toffee off the malt. Big alcohol hit but tasty stuff.
