Commercial Description:
Bottled, Special;
Port Dundas 1966 We set about to unite two of Scotland proudest heritages and produce a product which combined all that was good about Scotland’s whisky producing history and our contemporary take on a traditional Scottish style of stout. The fact that we have developed this product in conjunction with Duncan Taylor Ltd of Huntly means we mature our beer in the casks that once housed some of the most prestigious whiskies available today. The distinct flavours of these whiskies is beautifully infused into the beer giving a unique and unrivalled experience for both beer and whisky lovers. Paradox is produced in very small batches and each batch is bottled in a unique numbered limited edition bottle.

Way over priced bottle. Pours a nice deep brown with a tan head. Aroma is of licorice, vanilla and chocolate. The only complaint I have on this is the watered down texture. The flavors are there...good chocolate and vanilla with a hint of tobacco. Not bad except for that one part.

Bottle. Black with a small beige head. Aromas are very strong whisky grain with woody notes. Herbal with liquorice and leather. Smoky with vanilla and chocolate. Flavours are sweet chocolate with cream and vanilla. Then the whisky and alcohol comes through. Bitter roast coffee and dark chocolate with a peppery, warming finish. Great.

Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan mostly bubbly head. Malty sweet maple, caramelized sugars, woody vanilla and vinous notes. Dry chocolate bitter notes sweeter vinous notes, raisins, plum whiskey notes.

Bottle from Bottleworks. Tasted blind as 1 of 15. Pours dark brown with light tan head that fades quickly. Great borubon aroma with caramel, honey nut and chocolate. Incredibly enticing. Sweet chocolate and coffee with nice bitter hops balance and a slight oak finish. Medium body and very smooth. Best of the Paradox line.

Bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Deep brown nearly opaque with a minimal head nor lace, some oily tears upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of almonds, vanilla, charred oak, peat, slight cacao, coffee, fig and aromatic pipe tobaccos (I am getting some Latakia aromas for sure). The taste is moderate sweet and ashy black malts with a even-handed influence of the Scotch Whisky barrel. The twangy fruit notes play well with the nutty and herbal qualities. Then the smoky peaty and salty undertones rounds out the palate joyfully. Very well balanced where the barrel aging does not overpower the base beer. The mouth feel is soft and oily smooth, a tad thin honestly. Ashy and astringent finish. Of the Paradox line, I would put this near the top. Mikey Likey!

330ml Bottle: Aroma of caramel, toffee, vanilla, light whiskey, and a hint of roasted malt. Poured dark brown/black in color with a tiny, off-white head that barely lasted around the edges. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor of light roasted malts, slight chocolate, slight whiskey, slight vanilla, light smoke, light wood, and slight tar. Medium body. Lightly sticky texture. Soft carbonation. Roasted malt, smoked, and slight toffee finish is slightly dry. Perhaps my least favorite of the Paradox series so far, but still good. 10%ABV totally hidden.

Oily black pour, thin head. Smokey malt, chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts, oak, bourbon, & vanilla. Pretty tasty, the barrel aged whiskey notes were not over done, but in control and well balanced. Thick, a little oily mouthfeel.
