Commercial Description:
Bottled, Special;
Port Dundas 1966 We set about to unite two of Scotland proudest heritages and produce a product which combined all that was good about Scotland’s whisky producing history and our contemporary take on a traditional Scottish style of stout. The fact that we have developed this product in conjunction with Duncan Taylor Ltd of Huntly means we mature our beer in the casks that once housed some of the most prestigious whiskies available today. The distinct flavours of these whiskies is beautifully infused into the beer giving a unique and unrivalled experience for both beer and whisky lovers. Paradox is produced in very small batches and each batch is bottled in a unique numbered limited edition bottle.

Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a thin ring of light tan head. Aroma of smoky peated caramel malt and bittersweet dark chocolate. Body starts with pretty good fullness and sticky dark caramel and chocolate malt along with a mild balance of smoky peat before a smooth semi-sweet finish. A pretty good beer, but the Scotch character is more muted than the other Brewdog Paradoxes.

Bottle. Aroma of smoky whiskey notes, bitter chocolate, sweet alcohol, peat, quite complex. Flavor quite similar really, and very chocolaty with supporting whiskey notes. Although the whiskey is not overpowering, much of the interest here is from the barrel. Body a bit weaker than I’d like. Overall quite interesting and tasty.

Port Dundas, 1966 cask. Pours a nice dark brown. PIcking up some sugars, alcohol dominant in aroma. Body is lacking, just not much to it and the alcohol really jumps out at me.

Poured watery black with no head. Aroma of bourbon and smoke. Lots of bourbon flavor but in a good way.

Another disappointment from Brew Dog. Not sure why I keep droppin’ big $$$’s for these beers. Dark mahogany pour with garnet toward the edges and no head at all...just a few whispy bubbles that swirl around on top. Aroma is faint and only has a mild malt profile with perhaps a hint of dark fruit. Flavor is smoky with whisky and semi-sweet chocolate present. Quite watery and overall, not very pleasant.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear dark brown with a warm tint of red and a small, rough off-white head. Pleasantly sweet whisky accents with some vanilla. Full-bodied, very low carbonation with sweetish hard roasted malt, notes of vanilla and oak with a subdued bitterness. 090209

Pours a dark brown almost black with a bubbly head......not really even carbonation. Aroma is whiskey, oak, caramel, chocolate. Flavor is whiskey barrel, oak, caramel, cocoa, vanilla. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, and this beer totally lacks carbonation. I still enjoyed this one, but it could have been so much more if the base beer were a little more viscous.

12oz Port Dundas. Pour is pitch black with small brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, whiskey, wood, and alcohol. Flavor is smooth with vanilla, burbon hints, caramel, and burnt wood. Flavor is outstanding! Very mellow and nice.
