Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Dec 1, 2007 Bottle. Small to no head. Clear dark mahogany color with a flat look. Spare lacework. Heavy tar and part with also some whisky and alcohol that hits the nose. If you look past that, some smoke and roasted malt comes through. Some underlying coffee and chocolate over the palate. Full bodied with a soft carbonation with a dry texture. Moderated mix of sweet and bitter flavor. Bitter liquorish finish that lingers. faroeviking (6016), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Nov 26, 2007 Bottle @ thewolf tasting. Pours pitch black with a creamy beige head. Aroma of smoke, wood, medicine and whisky. Bit flat stickish mouthfeel. Flavour of roasted malt, smoke, whisky and some vanilla. Needs more body. thewolf (5623), Kolding, Denmark Nov 25, 2007 Bottle @ tasting at my place.
[thanks to mum and dad for bringing this home from Scotland]
Pours a deep black with a small creamy beige head. Good lacing. Aroma is woody, medicine, smoke. Creamy and low carbonation. Flavour is quite mild, lightly smoky and lots of peitiness. Far too one-sided. Vinious and powerful. The 002 is far superior. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 23, 2007 Bottle. I clicked on batch 006 and came here I do not know why. Never mind. Hed: Non-existant. Body, well I guess I have to write black this time. Oak aged smoky strong alcohold aroma. Sorry mates I really do not like it. Well the flavor is much better though. Smoky seaweed with notes of whisky, tar, coffee and sour something I do not know what. Complex spicy and lovely with a low carbonation and a long aftertaste. This is good, the alcohol percentage is high and indeed present. Another beer for my storage. KnutAlbert (3101), Oslo, Norway Nov 23, 2007 Bottle, courtesy of the brewery, thanks a lot!
Dark with a red tone, little carbonation.
Tar, sea, whisky. Smooth and velvety stout with the whisky bringing in paeat, salt and a warming edge. Each sip brings more. Soot, coffee, anise. This si not smotth and harmonoius - it has an edge. And that is what makes this beer stand out. Theis (3617), Denmark Nov 22, 2007 Bottle at "Wining & Dining Tasting" . Black - brown head. High smoke, high ashtray, tobacco, wood, whiskey, burned, stouty - thats it !!! Ungstrup (14724), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 19, 2007 Bottled. A dark amber beer with a disappearing tan head. The aroma is sweet with very strong notes of peat smoke - lovely!!! The flavor is sweet and very roasted combined with a strong smoke note - a lovely peaty smoke note that is. thebeertourist (2750), Oslo, Norway Nov 17, 2007 Bottle. Very dark brown, almost black with a small, tan froth. Smoke, peat, iodine with a somehow softening malty sweetness as a backdrop. Islay cask shines through. Flavours show more of the underlying beer, providing the espresso of the Riptide stout, but in the end Islay whisky character prevails. Soft and full-bodied for sure. A wonderful blend, though Islay casks get the upper hand. Blending the best of beer with the best of whisky in my opinion.
