Commercial Description:
Bottled; Special. Also cask.
This limited edition (001) sees a 8% Imperial Stout matured in a specially selected ex Duncan Taylor & Co Caol Ila 1996 single malt whisky cask.
NOTE: Some bottles of Speyside Batch 010 have been mis-labelled as Batch 001. However, those bottles clearly state Speyside on the bottle and should not be confused with the Islay Batch 001.

Bottle. Body-still cola body. Nose-light bourbon, wheaty, malty, grassy, flat hops. Taste-BBQ meat, bacon, smoke, tastes like Woody’s Smokehouse in Centerville, Texas, sausage. I have never had a beer with this much smoked meat flavor, salt, watered down scotch, smoked rye, just a touch of metal. The ,eat/smoke is done very well. A very well made enjoyable beer. Almost perfectly done, even though my score may not reflect that.

Suttree’s 2008 Pre-Brewer’s Jam Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to tronraner. Quite clear ruby black pour with a thin frothy light tan head. Potent peat, smoked aromas but light briney scotch tastes overpower all stout flavors.

scura schiuma poca e non persistente senori tipici di una imperial stout caffe tostato liquirizia vinoso poi affumicato legno in bocca molto simile prevale l’affumicato piuttosto viscosa ma l’etilico si nasconde bene

NorCal December ’07 - First, I owe a HUGE thank you to oh6gdx for sending me this thing of beauty. Incredible beer. I think that sums it up for me. Incredible. Okay, so fantastic will also work. Perhaps incredibly fantastic? Sounds good. An aroma of the smoke, whiskey, light cocoa notes, vanilla, anise and wood. Appearance is dark mahogany in color, very still in the pour with barely any head action at all. Smooth and supple mouthfeel. No harshness at all. Liquid velvet on the tongue. Flavors didn’t stray too far from the aroma notes. Smoke, whiskey, vanilla, wood, and subtle cocoa nibs. The finish is fantastic on this beer as the smokey irish whiskey flavor really lingers. Loved this beer.

(Bottle, batch 006) Pours very dark brown, black in the glass with a small brown head. The aroma holds peat smoked whisky up front with undertones of tar, wet cigarette/ cigar, toffee, wood, salt water, soy, salt liquorice, burned caramel and burned chocolate. Light medical with hints of throat lozenge and numbing mint. The nose is quite sharp and the whisky tones are too present. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light bitter and light acidic with notes of smoky whisky, salt liquorice, tar, wood, earth, tobacco/cigar, dark chocolate and maybe a whisper of toffee. The finish is quite dry with a notable touch of old bitter hops. The beer is just too medical and herbal to be enjoyable. The mouthfeel is light oily, empty and hard with a light carbonation. Numbing whisky notes lingers. Near medium bodied. I hope that I will be the last one to mention this - oak aged beers are ok as long as the wood blends well with the rest of the beer. As we say in Sweden: nej tack.

Pours a thinner near black with fast disapating small bubbled head. Lots of scotch aroma, some smokey peat, dark fruits, and sweet malt, also alcohol. Very scotch forward, peaty, some creamy chocolate, lots of roast. huge dark chocolate/barrel finish. Off dry but still kinda sugary in a distracting way. Medium bodied, fuller mouthful, very subtle fizzy carbonation.
