Commercial Description:
Bottled; Special. Also cask.
This limited edition (001) sees a 8% Imperial Stout matured in a specially selected ex Duncan Taylor & Co Caol Ila 1996 single malt whisky cask.
NOTE: Some bottles of Speyside Batch 010 have been mis-labelled as Batch 001. However, those bottles clearly state Speyside on the bottle and should not be confused with the Islay Batch 001.

Pours a deep brown color, with large tan head. Lots of smoke and peated malt in the aroma. This stout is strongly whiskey flavored. Mostly whiskey, with some smoke, chocolate, fruit, and oak. It’s alright.. quite a bit one sided in the flavor.

Beautiful near black body with a deep red shine, medium sized bubbles in head with alright duration; Very special nose, at first it seems like the beer has a fault with almost chlorine notes, really fast you realize it is very clear Islay notes mixed with malty beer notes, tone of tar, sea water, dried dark seaweed, behind it a fine layer of chocolaty malty notes; Quite big (perfect) amount of soft carbonation, quite balanced on the sweet side, slightly bitter as well; Quite long very warm finish, actually also a bit sharp and burning, lots of Islay aromas, more settled aromas then in nose , tar and smoke are the most apparent elements, actually quiite hoppy bitter as well, but no hop aromas at all. Very special, almost more like a whiskey then beer. A thin malty sweet Islay whiskey: To be honest I dont know if I have rated this beer right, it is a bit to strange. Thanks Tom.

Bottle shared by tronraner at the Pre-Brewers’ Jam Warm-up. Pours red-black with a small off-white head that settles to a ring. Aroma of smoke and earth. The flavor has lots of scotch, some wood. Medium body, tasty.

One of the most smoky tasting beers I’ve ever had. It is a relentless attack on your taste buds. Tar, tobacco, liquorice and whiskey are the dominating tastes. The aftertaste is mainly sharp smoky whiskey. It is not a beer you would drink two off but in small doses an excellent beer.

Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Brownish black in colour with low carbonation. Huge aromas of peat, iodine, and sea air with backing notes of mint, dried fruit, and a hint of roast. More over-the-top barrel elements in the mouth with lots of wood, smoke, and spirit, with the caramel and roasted malts creeping in on the back end. Only medium bodied. Quite unusual, as there’s so much Islay scotch influence that it’s hard to draw the line between the beer and whiskey.

[Bottle from Tom via brewer, cheers] Pours deep brown, almost black with a thick, tan head. The nose on this is fantastic, first notes of smoke and peat, then a rich maltyness with some coffeeish nuances, medicinal phenolic notes and some oak, really complex. Full body, touch of sweetness upfront leads to a dryfinish where the oak becomes a lot more pronounced, alcohol really well concealed. Wonderful stuff.
