Whether you like this will depend on whether you like Islay whisky. How you rate it will depend on whether you think a beer that doesn’t taste of beer should be highly scored. That said, the aroma wasn’t entirely overwhelmed by the whisky, with the smoky and tarry notes in the beer providing some contrast. But, on the palate, its Islay all the way. Reminded me of the LagaLimfjord at RBESG a couple of year ago. I liked this, even though I’m more of a fan of Lagavulin than Caol Ila. But plenty won’t. Not sure I could handle a pint though.

I’m in the second group. Beautiful to look at with its black colour and beige head, although the head could stay longer for me. But the aroma and taste are just shot to smithereens by the islay. It’s got strong medicine cabinets and turf things going on. Shockingly strong Islay flavours. No thanks. leaparsons (4755), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

Aromas are earthy roast coffee with spices and lots of alcohol. Flavours are rich strong bitter coffee with liquorice and medicinal notes. Bitter on the finish. Good but not quite as good as I expected. ChristianScheffel (4679), Odense, Denmark
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 20, 2007 Dark brown with a light brown head. Peat and medicine totally dominates the aroma, leaving nothing beer-like in my nose. Dry and roast flavour, still with peat dominating. Lubiere (4552), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 18, 2009 A deep dark stout with almost no head, of white. The aroma on this is quite intense and interesting: tobacco, leather, phenolics, wood essence, bitter chocolate, whiskey barrels and tar. In mouth, a nice sweetish and peaty chocolate, with light sweet fruity notes, intense yet subdued, complex yet almost quaffable. Bieropholie import, BB 03/03/2010.
