Taste is very smokey with strong oak, light caramel, strong roastiness, a bit earthy. Almost should be classified as a smoked with the domination that it brings but is still solid stuff. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and GregClow, thanks to Harry for this rare treat from over the pond. Smells like Islay! Seawater and dirt, alcohol, and roast as well in complex and up front aroma. Taste - maybe the smokiest beer ever? Like drinking charred wood from a smoldering peat fire. Lots of Islay like whiskey notes, body is thin, some acidic notes in finish as well. Needs more body in my opinion. A rare unique drinking experience that I enjoyed but am in no hurry to repeat, if that makes any sense. Rune (2859), Tromsø, Norway

Peaty stuff that has got a brown, ruby body under a beige head. Malty sweetness in aroma accentuated by a strong peaty touch. Roasted, rugged grain in the taste sustained by smoky malts, with an underlying notch of black coffee and spices. Enjoyable, but maybe too rough at times [15.11.2008]. Let me know if I have rated the wrong beer, all these different batches get confusing. Pours a deep coffee brown with a small beige head. Nose was very smokey and full of peat, more noticeable than the Port Dundas version. Finish was also very smokey with some underlying chocolate notes, finish was a little watery.
