Commercial Description:
Bottled; Special. Also cask.
This limited edition (001) sees a 8% Imperial Stout matured in a specially selected ex Duncan Taylor & Co Caol Ila 1996 single malt whisky cask.
NOTE: Some bottles of Speyside Batch 010 have been mis-labelled as Batch 001. However, those bottles clearly state Speyside on the bottle and should not be confused with the Islay Batch 001.

courtesy of fiulijn - very dark brown colour with some ruby hue; irregular beige foam formed of big bubbles; typical aroma of iodine and band-aid of the Islay whiskies; smokey with notes of dark chocolate; very oily and sticky, solid malt body, a rather low carbonation and a decent late bitterness which tries to balance the strong sweetness; the Islay characteristics appear again in a smokey and chocolatey finish which also makes some place for vanilla and alcohol notes - bold and powerful but not without a certain subtility

Bottle. Incredibly dark ruby color with a large tan head. Smoky peat aroma. Very. Medium plus body with mild carbonation. The flavor is smoke. Tar. Smoke. Creosote. Malt. Coffee. Strong s---. Finish is pretty much the same. Doubtless harsh to some.

A deep dark stout with almost no head, of white. The aroma on this is quite intense and interesting: tobacco, leather, phenolics, wood essence, bitter chocolate, whiskey barrels and tar. In mouth, a nice sweetish and peaty chocolate, with light sweet fruity notes, intense yet subdued, complex yet almost quaffable. Bieropholie import, BB 03/03/2010.

(Bottled) Very dark brown with a small head and some lace. Very malty, ashy and smoothly oaky, whiskey-like aroma with chlorine hints and some alcohol. Very tarry, roasty and ashy flavor with a long, dry-ashy-smoky finish. Quite full-bodied, dry-ashy palate with low carbonation. Interesting and intese, but not the most balanced.

Bottle at PlanB. I don’t know which batch it is, but it’s definately good! Black with a light brown head, quickly gone. Aroma heavy malty (cask, burnt, smoke). Flavor light/moderate sweet, heavy bitter and spicy. Strong in alcohol, but not felt at first!

this was batch 006 and not 001, but according to ratebeer, it’s an alias. The roma is full of oak and smoke, with a bit of hops in there too. The appearance is dark and with a brown head. The flavor has oak, smoke and liqourice to finish it off. There is also a tint of whiskey note in the flavor, but I doubt that I would discover it if it was rated during a blind tasting. Then I would just have concluded it was different than normal oak.

scura schiuma poca e non persistente senori tipici di una imperial stout caffe tostato liquirizia vinoso poi affumicato legno in bocca molto simile prevale l’affumicato piuttosto viscosa ma l’etilico si nasconde bene
