AR: chocolate, brewwd coffe
AP: Coalbrown body, wee chesnut colored head
F. Cholcolate but not the best quality, coffee, some sprity sideflavor
Discovered after a wee zip that serving temp should be roomstemp so the beverage had to wait for another 1 1/2 h: No al the flavors were much smoother and the undefined metal flavor had gone. And some wiskey tones were more alive, like oak, heather honey etc etc Linnet (130), Umeå, Sweden
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2009 black colour, tan head, lacing. Aroma is full of smoke, reminds me of nils oscar rökporter, vanilla, coffee espresso acidity, brown sugar ,tar. Same flavours are found in it. Mouthfeel is smooth. This is a competent imperial stout, but the smokehead version was a lot better to my opinion. DuffMan (2786), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 18, 2009 Bottle. Not an especially heavy looking pour-- dark brown, clear, very thin low brown head. Wonderful aromas and flavours of chocolate, cigar-box, vanilla, and smokey peat. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. No hint of the ABV here (deadly!). Yet another awesome impy from BrewDog! Flavor was a nice oak and whiskey, sweet malts, toffee, coffee, cocoa and vanilla. Very nice. Finally a BrewDog beer that I would drink over and over. espenra (301), Oslo, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 18, 2009 33cl bottle from Systembolaget. Batch 16. best before 2014-09-26. It poured a pitch black colour with a big beige foamy head that settled down slowly in the glass. Aroma is coffee, malts with some smokey whisky notes as well, but the whisky is not as dominant as I had thought. The flavour is dry, bitter and laden with notes of alcohol and whisky. This is definately where the Isle of Arran comes through. Some roasted malts, coffee and traces of liqourice as well. pilsnerrogge (1795), Finspång, Sweden
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 15, 2009 Bottled: Pous black with a small, bubbly head. Aroma is tar, ash, iodine, peat and smoke. Flavour is ash, smoke and wood. Alcohol is well hidden. A beer for the lovers of Single Malt Whisky. Marsiblursi (1659), Göteborg, Sweden
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 14, 2009 (Bottle) Pours black with a creamy, medium brown head. The aroma is of whisky and oak up front. Vanilla, tar, spicy wood, dry caramel malt, juicy dark bread, 99% chocolate, coffee roast and black tea with honey. Some dark fruit hints. The flavour is light to medium sweet, medium bitter and light acidic. Quite wooden with notable tannin-ish tartness. Heavily roasted malt. Tones of vanilla, honey, coffee, dark chocolate, tar, mild spices, dark berries and light resiny hops. The mouthfeel is clean and caramel round, almost soft. Light carbonated. The malt structure is enjoyable; too bad this beer is oaked. Some alcohol burn in the finish. Medium to full bodied. Ibrew2or3 (2848), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2009 11.2oz bottle pours deep mahogany with thin tan head. The aroma is full with rich dark fruity esters, fudge brownie, a thin layer of caramel and a bit of highly roasted malts in the background. Hanging above the top of those notes are whiskey booze and some heat to the snoot. The taste begins with ripe plums, blueberries and boysenberries then moving into a combination of soft chewy caramel, whiskey and some straight up booziness. Midway and into the finish it becomes very fudge chocolate rum cake and how. Yum! Tasting this beer is an adventure. Based on some previous Paradox variants I wasn’t expecting it to be this complex and bold in flavor. Well done.
