Commercial Description:
Paradox Isle of Arran = Stout Aged in Isle of Arran Whisky Barrels - This Imperial stout has been matured in specially selected Islay Malt Whisky Casks. The aging process infuses into the beer all the threatening smoke, the encapsulating peat, the Atlantic essence and raw power of Scotland’s most distinctive Whiskies.

Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, smoke, peat, very slight whiskey (this is the irish spelling of the word whiskey). The appearance is like any Imperial stout, dark brown/black, tan head. The flavor is chocolate, whiskey, roasted malts, slight smoke (not as much as I expected). The mouthfeel is medium/thick, not as thick as I might have thought. The finish is where the whiskey pokes through, and leaves a nice warming in the back of the throat. Very good, not as good as I might have expected.

11.2 oz bottle. Poured a thin body of pitch black with an ugly soap bubble beige head. Aroma was far more subdued and therefore loads more pleasurable then the last Paradox I had sampled. Aroma of whiskey, dark fruits, charcoal, dark chocolate syrup, burnt malts and coffee. The body is suprisingly far more fuller then the appearance lead me to believe but sadly it was also far more softer and almost all of the carbonation was gone. The flavor starts off with strong impy stout qualities, roasty and noticeable alcohol, then the whiskey flavors kick in finishing off with more roastiness and burnt malts. Good stuff and worlds better then Islay.

Bottle. Pours deep black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, ripe fruits and generous amount of smoke. Rich chewey taste, whiskey comes to the surface here, smooth, not overpowering at all. Nice finish

Dark brown pour with no head. Aroma-strong malts, soy sauce, cola. Taste-coffee grounds, whisky, roast malts, salt, not sweet. No hops, dry malt finishes nicely.

had on cask at Churchkey in NW Washington DC. VERY dark pour, served 54 degrees, almost no head or lacing. Very strong flavor with hints of scotch including chocolate, malt, and a lot of oak. Finish is bitter ,but not in a bad way....

What an amazing disapointment. Nice nose and beautiful to look at, but no body and nearly no whisky to be detected. $12+ and the 10% didn’t even seem there. A real bummer.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Very dark brown colour and brownish head. Whisky, alchohol, dark roasty maltiyness in the aroma and taste. Full bodied. Very enjoyable although I like beer as beer and whisky as whisky.
