| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Bottle from PC Market of Choice in Eugene, OR. Color is dark brown/black with garnet notes. The head is large beige/tan bubbles. Aromas of dark toasted malt and vanilla? Medium body (treacly feel) going to fuller body, and the carbonation is essentially non-existent. Flavor is sprightly, smokey, oaky. Backed by burnt malt. Quite smooth, finishing slightly gritty, slightly sweet. Tantalizes the senses. Caresses the mouth. The sherry aspect didn’t hit until I was halfway through. It’s expensive, but it’s very tasty. The burps are exquisite. cgarvieuk (4212), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2009 (Bottled) Very dark reddish brown with a small, beige and lacy head. Quite smoky, sweetish-syrupy-malty aroma with salty licorice, vanilla, and hints of peat. Flavor is salty-licoricey with tar, some smoke, vanilla, slightly sweet malt. Medium body with evident but warming and not disturbing alcohol, and very soft and low carbonation. Very tasty and quite balanced, although maybe a bit thin in the end. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2009 I think Hophead75 shared this at his tasting last year? Pours a deep dark brown almost straight black with a thinning shiny head some lace as well. Aroma is dark chocolate, nutty, scotch whiskey comes through- a bit harsh, oaky, astringent, hints of cola and sherry oxidation. Flavor is sweet but cut by the woody and whickey astringency and the oxidation sherry, saltiness backs that up to cut through all the malt- some slight sweetness, roast and chocolate malt with some slight fruitiness. Oaky and dry finish. ratman197 (3252), Arvada, Colorado, USA
