| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2009 black, no head. Coffee, smoky, earthy aroma. Very earthy flavor, but it mixes well with the stout flavors. Nicely balanced, and the macallan never overpowers the beer. Very tasty. puzzl (2660), New York, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2008 Bottled. This stuff is pretty nice. Some of these Paradox beers go way too deep with the scotch, but this one balances quite well, even picking up some of the sherry characteristics as well. Great cherry, oak, licorice, burnt marshmallows in the aroma. Very deep and enticing and never once showing any alcohol burn. In the mouth this has a full, gooey flavor, again burnt marshmallows, cinnamon, faint oxidation, wood. Almost a touch of hop bitterness in the finish. Excellent stuff here. As much as I hate to admit it, the Paradox series continues to impress. kmweaver (2501), Sebastopol, California, USA

We did a side-by-side of four of these (Islay 009, Speyside 010, Macallan 011, Glen Grant 003), and they looked nearly identical: dark, murky brown color; thin, light-tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Lots of licorice, dark-dark fruits, and charred barrel notes in the aroma; slightly overripe; touch of nougat and dogfood in the nose. Relaxed carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: tons of dried dark fruits, dried cherries, and sweet maltiness; minimal alcohol coming through; light scotch character, mostly appearing as toasty wood and touches of chewy vanilla. Quite nice. Lengthy finish: again, toasty malts, and dark chocolate; nicely roasted and dry. Crit (2416), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 10, 2008 Courtesy growler. Like all the other Paradox beers, this one pours a dark but translucent mahogany brown color with a tiny, bubbly edge. Virtually no lacing marks the glass. The aroma shows big notes of dark chocolate, slight saltiness, charred oak, and a surprising dose of dark, vinous fruits, which I assume to be coming from the sherry. Flavors back up this claim, as the chocolate is indeed accompanied by a prominent salty smokiness and a lurking background note of indiscernible dark fruits (perhaps even some cherries). The low carbonation works well here, and the smooth, velvety mouthfeel is more substantial than other Paradox’s, as I recall. I found this to be very unique, and one of the better beers within the series. Miksu (2241), Jyväskylä, Finland
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2009 0.33 l bottle from Alko (as Paradox Speyside batch 011). Dark reddish brown color. Rich whisky and roasted malt aroma with chocolate, oak and vanilla. Firm roasty, bitter, whiskeyish and oaky flavor with vanilla, licorice and chocolate. Smooth palate with soft carbonation. Fairly light body for 10 % ABV beer, I like it this way. First sips taste very balanced and well integrated but after a while whisky gets too dominant. Very enjoyable though. blutt59 (2185), Dallas, Texas, USA
