nicolascage (102), Copenhagen (Virum), Denmark Nov 16, 2007 Bottle. Nice round stout, fairly undrinkable for a 10% imp. stout. some bitterness and a very well balanced whisky taste from the cask.
BeerandBlues2 (2451), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 17, 2008 12-oz. bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours opaque with a small, rocky, light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, coffee, burnt, chocolate), light hops (perfume), heavy yeast (horse blanket, leather, musty) with notes of light alcohol, prunes, dates, smoke, tar, charcoal, and licorice. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. Defreni (475), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 14, 2008 Flaske. Pours a dark brown body with a thin light brown head that floats around but has no depth. The aroma is full of vanilla and woody notes, some tobacco too. The taste is very smooth; a sweet vanilla and scotch flavor, tons of smooth wood aged flavors, tobacco and earthy peat flavors. Just as with the other Brewdogs I’ve had a excellent example of the maturing process. Very nice. JB175 (1319), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 13, 2008 Darker brown color with a thin beige head. Aroma has some light woodiness with hints of toffee, vanilla, and bittersweet chocolate. Flavor is dominated by lightly creamy chocolate, wood/vanilla/whiskey, and some light coffee. Mouthfeel is thinner than I would prefer, but still coats the palate well with just a hint of heat. Not bad, but it sure doesn’t match up to a high quality BA beer. Good, but not for the price.
CaptainCougar (4624), Rockville, Maryland, USA Aug 13, 2008 Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a thin, spotty-lacing wispy light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel, brown sugar and plums with light peaty Scotch undertones. Body starts with good fullness and sweet dark malt sugars with coffee roasty character and smoky oak toward a more bitter finish. A pretty nice Scotch barrel aged imperial stout with a smooth balance throughout.
