JMFG (1173), Florida, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle. Severe dark, almost black pour, light ring of off-white head. Very rich aroma, not as alcoholic as the 008, very oaky, very tannic, moderate damp peatiness present also. The flavor is fantastic - significant roast melded with rich scotch notes that keeps away from being too overboard with the alcohol. Oaky with a subtle plateau of earthy dirt and peat below. Very nice.
JohnnyJ (673), Reno, Nevada, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pours a very dark black with tan head. Sweet malt, roasted coffee, chocolate, molasses, fruity esters, oak, and a nice touch of whiskey. Nice full bodied imp stout. Enjoyable, but expensive. #666 Immy (1583), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Oct 5, 2008 11.2 oz bottle, best by 06/06/09. $13 flippin’ dollars. Near black with a thin beige head. Big molasses and peat nose, mildly roasty and boozy. Tasty - a bit boozy, roasty, chocolatey and thick molasses. Interesting, but DAMN, these BrewDogs are too expensive. chicagodri (540), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 30, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Chocolate, coffee, and whiskey in the aroma. Sweet flavor, mainly from the chocolate. Just the right amount of whiskey. Goes down smooth, some dark fruit flavor in there as well. I enjoyed it. marcus (1051), Sacramento, California, USA Sep 29, 2008 This dark brown ale poured with a miniscule tan head - just a few bubbles - and a rich chocolate malt aroma. There is a lot of chocolate in the flavor too, enhanced by some nice whiskey taste. Very rich and tasty. Philip (389), Illinois, USA Sep 29, 2008 Provisions Market in St. Louis. This was the surprise beer of the day for me at their tasting, and one that I had knew needed to be enjoyed again to appreciate. This strikes me as similar to Old Engine Oil in that it has characteristics of an old ale and a stout together. What’s noticeable here is the blackness of the pour and the thickness of the mouthfeel, which coats the tongue. Notes of molasses and tar combine with sweet vanilla and smoke. There’s a good amount of dark stone fruits here, and the finish is warm and embracing. Great stuff.
