BBB63 (3800), La Porte, Indiana, USA Apr 22, 2008 Bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter (tasted along side of the 8 & 9): Nearly opaque with a small tan head which left spotty lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of chocolate, charred malts, caramel, cereal, plum, molasses, and very light wood with a dash of oxidization. I was expecting some scotch and peat but they were nowhere to be found and the only hint of the nose of BA is the light wood. The taste starts slight fruity and twangy with a chocolate covered raisins and blueberries. Found some notes of espresso bitterness and chewy grains in midsection before heading towards a lightly oaked and tannic finish. The mouth feel is soft and rich but a tad too thin for the flavor profile. While it is a nice beer I was left disappointed by the lack of Speyside character on the palate or nose.
Plimmer (243), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 2, 2008 Bottle 33cl. Pitch black and with almost no head. Lots of roasted malt, tar and smoke in the nose. Supriseingly light body with lots of roasted malt, tar and smoke. Almost tastes like a whiskey. Aftertaste dominated by peat, smoke, tar and roasted malt. Strange beer. henrikb (1094), Aarhus, Denmark Aug 31, 2008 Black body, light beige head; Not to big quite metallic malty nose; Warm full body with much the same character as finish, not as well fitting as some of the other barrels this one is a little to much whiskey mixed with beer. after4ever (1717), Brier, Washington, USA Aug 27, 2008 12-oz. Thanks, Skoi! Black with bright amber highlights. Dense tan film atop, got some lace showing as well. Rich creamy body with lots of peat, caramel, and roast. Milder than the glen grant, though the flavor profile is from same general province. More harmonious than the GG as well. Long, hot, roasty finish. BeerandBlues2 (2473), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 17, 2008 12-oz. bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours opaque with a small, rocky, light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, coffee, burnt, chocolate), light hops (perfume), heavy yeast (horse blanket, leather, musty) with notes of light alcohol, prunes, dates, smoke, tar, charcoal, and licorice. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. Defreni (482), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 14, 2008 Flaske.
