Cybercat (655), Georgia, USA May 29, 2009 Pours a nice deep sable with a decent but not too persistent tan head. Aroma is strong, oily and smoky, with undertones of molasses and unsweetened chocolate. Flavor is like burnt unsweet chocolate with a hint of coffee and a trace of molasses, subtly sweet and fairly but not nastily bitter. Texture is smooth, not as thick or heavy as most stouts I have tried, and has a strong alcohol bite, perhaps from the whisky barrel in which it was aged. Bullit (1055), Glasgow, Scotland Apr 18, 2009 Bottle, Oddbins. Dark brown colour, brown lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, whisky and caramel. Flavour of roasted malts, dark fruits, whisky. Sweet, syrupy finish. Relatively light bodied. Lacks a good coffee malts and hop punch. Not too impressed. badgerben (3492), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Mar 23, 2009 Black color with a thin head. Light oak and sherry aroma. Taste is a weak grain, some roasted malt and a bit of astringency. Only a very little bit of oak and really no whisky notes at all. I would never guess this to be a barrel aged beer in a blind taste test, let alone a Scotch barrel aged beer. BDR (2057), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Mar 20, 2009 Thanks to badgerben for sharing. Dark brown color with minimal head. Body was grainy and astringent flavor. Faint oak barrel character, but not much whiskey at all. puzzl (2339), New York, New York, USA Mar 15, 2009 Bottle shared by someone at Spuyten... hell, it may have even been me. Big whiskey aroma, sweet and plummy, some salt. Sweet body, but a bit ashy from the barrel. Medium bodied and gentle, chalky with mild seaweed. Enjoyable and subtle but doesn’t have the complexity or delicacy of the best Paradox offerings. JoeMcPhee (4544), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Feb 27, 2009 Bottle shared by puzzl. Dark brown beer with a fairly deep rich aroma. Chewy and sweet with a light kiss of barrel character. Lightly oaky with a light caramel character. Fairly dry and oaky finish. Quite nice. Pretty tasty. PilsnerPeter (2162), Flushing, New York, USA Feb 27, 2009 Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil: Pours deep brown with a wispy bubbly tan head. The aroma is earthy, raisiny, some cocoa, and light oak is there. Slick and light on the palate. Dry-ish flavor. Light raisin sweetness underneath a smoky/peat note and oak. Pretty good, just lacking some nuances that other Speyside batches have had. goldtwins (4042), Nesconset, New York, USA Feb 24, 2009 Poured a very deep brown color. Aged fruit and roasted malt aroma. Roasted sweet fruity malt flavor. Light Whisky. Warming. Dry bitter finish. Medium bodied.
